1980 CB125s MaS' Riding Dirty

From what i've read you can change a battery for a capacitor if you are using kick start only and have minimal electronics, capacitors discharge when not in use (on charge). Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

That screw is the fuel screw. It is similar to the carb I have on my 125. The carb is originally from an xr200r. Since it is near the motor, it is a fuel screw. It functions opposite of an air screw. In is lean and out is rich. Check the oem settings but it should be about 1 1/4 turns out.

The part that is throwing me off is tht it won't actually turn all the way because it's designed w a stopper in place. So when you say 1.5 turns it wont even go full circle?

Here is a drawing I made perhaps to better explain the mystery screw. If Someone can better explain this I would appreciate it

I understand it would be fuel but the idea that it only adjust less than 1 full turn confuses me. Also which way would make it run leaner or richer?

You should try the "trial and error" method! 125 cc carbs somehow don't follow the normal rules every other bigger carb does. I installed a k&n type filter in my 125 Honda and I assumed the mixture would be on the leaner side and that I would need bigger jets. WRONG! My sparkplug was completely black and wet; so, more air into the carb (because of the filter) makes a richer mixture? I just don't understand!

I think that cap can pull off. I think its on there so it makes adjusting it easier.

I have know experience with a capacitor. But i believe your right on how it works. i also have read that any charging problem you currently have will be even worse with a capacitor. None of my 125s have had very good charging systems.

Electronic ignition should give you a better more consistent spark but also you will not have to adjust the points. You set the ignition one time and then its done. I had one on my bike called little frank. It worked fine. It was a pamco.

Well, I took the carb apart reassembled it. I got it running essentially perfect by my standards. I was very happy with it. My sisters sowing machine couldn't handle the stitching so I had to drop that idea until I could get it to a real upholstery person. BUT..... I sold it. I needed the money for another bike I've been wanting since the day I started riding. I sold it to fund a BMW R75/6. I believe I will have one here with in the next week or so. I also found another CB125s that I can pick up for a loose $100. It's a pile of shit but that how most of the good projects start. More than likely I will continue this thread with my new 125 corpse after I pick it up. Here is the last pick of my first real dive into a cafe project and from the looks of it I think I was headin the right direction. I want to thank all of you guys for your input and help. I look forward to building another bike with your help in the coming weeks. The new owner I literally had to teach how to ride in front of my house but I believe he will carry the spirit of the bike wit him and finish it off properly. If anyone cares to know how much I sold it for PM me. I think t was a fair price and probably could have fetched more.

Well today I picked up my new project. I got it for the SAME price I sold my CB125s. I was seriously shocked at the price. Considering I got. Exrta tank, fairing seat, shocks, rack for cases fenders and all kinds of other stuff. The guy said it was his father that passed. And he was planing on making a racer. He said the starter had failed
And it needed a new one. Other than that some oil here and the and some cosmetics. It was sitting in doors since 2001. 1975 R90/6 - if anyone know anything about fixing replacing the starter and how do I go preparing it for its first start in a decade.

Way to go! Bloody brilliant :) :)
Snap ...... Last winter I finished my Honda 125 project and have a BMW waiting in the wings for this winter.

Yeah Im pretty pumped up. I'll take some better pics. I honestly think I can sell some of the goods to help pay for the parts I'll need. Has the wheels and the color I truly love. Im pretty sure I'll build this a little more to spec than a Cafe bike. But I will add simple things to make it look the part and perform as well.

I have so many extra parts I have know idea. I plan on investigating that stuff first and deterine what I do and don't need and then go form there.

Beautiful bimmer! It looks damn good as is, but you have to admit that a mild cafe transformation looks sick too!

yeah Im starting to lean. I mean, Since I already have the fairing in the above picture.as well as the seat cowl and an extra tank.

I will consider it as the project moves. I kind of have a picture in my head of what i want it to look like and since the bike is not a good candidate for complete OEM restoration I might as well.

And then there is this for inspiration.
