1980 Suzuki GN400 cafe project

How goes the war? I also have a 1980 Suzuki gn400 and I'm trying to get ideas for how I want to upgrade.

Not great. I had it all painted up and ready to start piecing it together. I mounted the engine and was super stoked to notice that the paint was chipping off like I had taken a hammer to it. The paint is just total crap, so I haven't touched it since. The plan is to just get it powder coated, and who knows when that'll happen. I did manage to get the engine looking great. It took me a few days because there was a super heavy gas stain on the engine. It may be a while before I jump back in on this project.

I'd love to see your project MattL9. Are you posting it anywhere?

Sorry to hear that man!
I haven't made a post anywhere. I'm a freshman in college and haven't had a ton of time to work on it so there's not really a point in having it up to show people the lack of progress I'm making. But here's a pic of the bike from a while ago. I was riding last weekend and the brake light lens fell off somewhere so I've been trying to find that piece online. Right now, it just has some red light repair tape over the bulb (not on the bulb). If I don't find one, I might just rig up some strobe lights that I've seen at Autozone. The 6 volt system makes it hard to find the right bulbs but somehow I've managed. The biggest thing with this bike is the size (put intended). I'm 6'3, I have to sit on the back seat to not get cramped so I've also been trying to find a cafe style seat or something flat to make it more comfortable. A friend of mine suggested taking the seat on it now to an upholstery shop to have it modified. Also, the previous owner painted the gas take with spray paint. Come next spring, I intend to repaint. After this riding season, the plan is to shine it up and figure out all the electrical issues. Once I graduate and actually have money, I will for sure be making this even nicer.
Other than that, I absolutely love the bike. It's a great beginner bike, it's fast, and it gets good gas mileage. Starts up second, if not first, kick. The compression clutch is really nice too.

Matt, check around for a part number on www.partzilla.com or whatever for your lens. If this is the part # I'm thinking:

http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/suzuki/SP-35712-49130.html

Than that lens was widely used (obviously). And if that actually is the right lens, I might have a spare kicking around my garage you could have for the cost of shipping.

And sorry to hear about your paint, Kent!
