1980 xs 1100 not shiney

It's really not shiney but it's done. I'll get some better daytime shots later. Maybe a pro paint job is in it's future but for this summer it's just going to be ridden. I didn't want to spend any more money than about 500 bucks (400 for the bike) so I had to stitch the seat myself (tandy leather has all the goodies you need). All the electronics are under the cowl and tank. Rearsets are off of a 2007 gsxr 600 and cost a whopping 45 dollars on fleabay. I'd like to do a frontend swap at some point to update the brakes and suspension because the existing sucks! The exhaust was done by me at my Dad's muffler shop. The mufflers are glasspacks that my Grandfather manufactures and they sound great (nice rumble)! I made the airbox out of PVC and used the stock velocity stacks inside (it has retained it's original power curve) and a single airfilter from pep boys. I tried the clubman bars but i'm really not that flexible. ;D I'm really glad that it's done and I should have no problem hitting the ton on this 600 lb. beast. Thanks DTT for all the great ideas and support to chop up a 30 year old bike.

no the swingarm stayed in the same position. It has longer rear shocks on it. I also cut off the foot peg mounting brackets behind the piviot point and welded in the braces. That's what I bolted my rearsets to.
 
Looks good man, I am just concerned about that angle on your shaft drive.
 
the airbox is dope as hell man i really dig it! how about some more info on those cherry bombs? how did the carbs work wit the airbox was jetting a bitch?
 
Nice to see someone built what Yamaha brought to the the big bore game back in the day.... she looks great and I doubt you'll see another one.

Looks great!! Were the rearsets a direct install? Looks like the shifter was pretty easy to do by turning it around, but did you have to lengthen it? I am going to have to take a second look at my 11 tonight. I just might be ordering a set of these soon.
 
the rearsets were not a direct bolt on. I had to cut the existing tabs off the rear of the frame and weld on a new brace. then it was a simple two bolts and there they are. When you turn your shifter around like I did your shifting is backwards (to go up a gear you shift down). I might extend the lever in the future but since I have huge feet it's not that bad right now.
 
You better no even think about putting a shiny paint job on that monster. It is frigging PERFECT the way it is. Nice job! ;D

Have you ever played Grand Theft Auto Vice City? (I think it's that one) If not, you should check it out, your' bike's in it. I always though that was the coolest bike in the game and wanted to recreate it :) nice job!

Well I couldn't leave it alone so I have a new paint concept......ww2 p-38 colors. I rode the bike around but started to feel that the olive drab needed a little color. I checked out some old war birds and liked the p-51 and the p-38 colors so this is the start of that paint scheme. I like the fact that the bright color splash will make me more visable on the highway plus the pipes are loud as hell! Still needs a few markings like a tail number of maybe some little harley stickers on the tank to represent my kills. ;D
