1980 Yamaha shaft drive?

What models were available in 1980 with shaft drive?

A guy at work has offered to give me this bike...He doesn't know anything about it other than it is an '80 Yamaha with shaft drive.

I believe the XS750 Triple and XS1100 were both shaft drive. Also the XJ650.

The early XV viragos started around then as well, I'm not certain of the exact year they arrived here.


If you can figure out the engine configuration (triple, inline 4, v-twin, etc.) that will certainly help narrow it down some...

In 1980 there were 2 versions of the XS850 (G & SG) as well as 2 versions of the XS1100 (G & SG) that were shafties. The G's are the standard style bikes and the SG's are the specials. Any of them would be worth snagging.

Thanks guys!!! The wheels on it lead me to believe it is a xj650.

This thing is ugly but could be a pretty cool chopper.
