1981 CB750K Project Superleggera

So today I put the bike back on the scales to see what kind of progress I've made (since weight reduction was the original goal).

I had hoped to get down into the 400s from the original weight of 542.5lbs

I got so much further than I expected! 458lbs!!

And a perfect weight distribution to boot. Can't beat that.

When you do get it on can you do me a favor and measure the clearance between the exhaust and the swingarm? The CBR swinger is quite a bit wider and I'm currently planning on buying the mild exhaust so I can bend it out a bit, but if it clears by enough I'll just get the ceramic coated one and not worry about it.

I will, but I've been working 12 hour days the past month, so I can buy the parts but can't get them on right away. I also purchased the black ceramic coated pipe. They had a sale after the first of the year so I had to. I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can!

Appreciate it man, no rush. I'm on 10 hour days so I know a taste of the pain lol. I emailed Steve about the exhaust and I'm still waiting to hear back from him. Either way the IRS hasn't sent my refund so for now I'm stuck with the ridiculousness that is an open-header CB.

Yeah I'm definitely not up to snuff on the two wheeled side of vehicle dynamics but if it was a car it'd be perfect lol.

More small updates. Still waiting on my bar end blinkers and new bar end mirror (current bargain bin one won't work with the blinkers) but I've gotten some other parts in!

My 4-1 yoshi style exhaust from Carpy came and was promptly installed so I can finally ride without 5 pairs of ear plugs. I'm also fairly certain this entire exhaust is lighter than the OE cut off headers I had on the bike.

I ordered a custom rear brake line and it was at my door in 2 days. Shout out to the great guys over at Spiegler for their great service. Bleeding the linked rear was a bit interesting since I had to keep swapping bleeder valves to get all the bubbles out, but we got there after about 10 minutes. You also might notice the exhaust is rotated out of the way, the carpy has a bit of a clearance issue with my rear sets, but that wasn't unexpected.

Today my progressive springs finally came in (had the dampers for about a week) so I slapped those on before work. Definitely an upgrade.

And I had an exhaust shop slightly un-bend the carpy exhaust to clear the brake pedal. The wall thickness on this exhaust is super thin, so the ripples you see in the pipe were an expected side effect, but I'm not broken up about it. Worse case scenario if it starts bothering me I'll have the same guy bend me up some 2.5" pipe to match the carpy piece without the kinks. And yes I do eventually plan to get this thing coated as it's currently raw steel. I've just got to decide where I want to run the rear mount first.

Unfortunately I haven't gotten to ride it on the new shocks yet, that should happen soon.

In other news I took the carbs apart to change the jets for the new exhaust, and found two of my floats had gas in them, those should be here soon. I'm also waiting on some very small drill bits so I can try my hand at custom drilled jets since no one lists primaries for the DOHC. I can get mains in the right size (or what other people use with a 4-1 at least), but I've been to lazy to pull one and see if they're the same thread, though I'd bet they are. So hopefully shes running properly soon so I can take her out and put those modern tires to work.

Love it, working on an 81 750c my self, what were your dimensions on the rear hoop. I need to have for my tail so I can ditch the seat [same one you have] for something more appealing. Are you going to get a different seat or keep the OE one?

The hoop was 8-7/8", I bought mine from First City Moto, cut it down and welded it on. A new seat is on the list of things to do once the bike is running the way I want it to. I do plan on keeping this one for long distance/pillion stuff though, it's quite comfortable.

Awesome thanks for the info I'll snag one from there then. Tossing battery in the same location, perfect spot for it!
