1981 Honda CB250N Cafe Racer Project

G'day Steve.

I'm loving your CX mate!

As you know I did the pan and Nicci did the foam with supplies from Clark Rubber. The steel for the seat pan was scrap that my brother had. A local upholsterer in West Ryde did the rest of the trimming. All up not including mine and Nicci's time, the seat cost $240 (the upholsterer charged me $150)

If you need this guys details, I can send them to you.

Cheers

Steve

Yep, PM me the upholsterers details, I work at North Sydney and live on the North side so West Ryde isn't far away and it sounds like a good price. I covered my seat but am looking at something a bit more detailed now the rest of the bike is moving along.

Cheers
Steve

this is already one of the tidiest little cb250n's around.....
well done on that style of seat it really looks the goods.... hides that ugly pressed steel fame.
you're really kicking on with this thing!
super fast

Wednesday 6th Feb 2013 - We have red!

The first coats of colour where thrown onto the tank this evening. This red is a Honda colour, Rallye Red. The iphone camera is freaking out with the colour, especially under flouro lights so it's actually not the tomato red you may see on screen.

Tomorrow we'll be making a start on the tank graphics and logo.

Thursday 7th Feb 2013 - After not being certain the right decision had been made when seen last night under lights, seeing it this morning confirmed we'd made correct choice!

The bulk of the bike is slowly coming back together, with my doing my best not to scratch it up too much.

We also managed to mask off the tank logo and lay down some black this afternoon.

Friday 8th Feb 2013 - It's starting to look like a bike again!

I just couldn't help having to drop the tank onto the bike. It is a bit high in the back due to it not being properly bolted down.

As the painted logo and bike name is a secret until the big reveal, I thought I'd check my noggin on the tank instead. It's currently blocked back and in prep for the clear coat it's getting over the weekend.

I'm hoping to get the bike wired again and test run the engine in the workshop tomorrow. Fingers crossed it'll be complete for my dyno tune on Tuesday!

G'day James, yep, the bars will remain inverted.

I was really pushing to get my bike finished by then....
unfortunately i just had to re-rego my car, so i cant really afford the custom brake discs and rego for the zed yet...
plus im turning the vtr1000 into abit of a fighter/beast-tracker thingy, that actually has rego so i might try and get that back functioning for the ride....

there will be some sweet machines there...
you heading along?

Tuesday 12th Feb 2013 - She's done!

Let me introduce the "Cherry Bomb"!

After a 13 hour day yesterday, and some fiddle-farting about the morning the build is pretty much completed after 21.5 days!

To say that I'm somewhat chuffed with the results is an understatement!

The only foreseeable upgrade in the near future is replacing the current PVC stash tume under theseat with a proper copper pipe. Hopefully I can get my hands on some reasonably priced scrap.

So here's some simple pics I snapped today during it's dyno tune by my good mate Harley @ http://www.rbimports.com.au/, along with some video of her in action.

Over the coming week or so I intend to get some glamour pics of her too.

Bugger, we'll both be on a run soon enough!

Yep, I plan on making Sunday if the weather is good.

Absolutely love it and very impressed with how quick you've got it done!!!!

By the way, what are the mufflers you are running? Any drama getting them to seal with the stock collector box?

thats cool man!
i was hoping to make sunday as well, but at the moment i cant see it happening, need to chase this fault in either my coil or points and then get rego and a good tune up.

how much louder are those muffler hey ;)

Let me get this straight,

You just built the nicest looking cb250 I have seen, in 21 days, without a major shop?

A legend mate. Looks fantastic.

Thank you all for the amazing feedback guys!

I've been trying to get as many shakedown klms under my belt prior to my big group ride to Kangaroo Valley tomorrow.

Over the last couple of days I've managed to get caught in the rain for the first time as a bike rider, and without wet weather gear of course!

I also experienced my first group ride with the Sydney cafe racer crew, tearing up the street of Sydney on a midnight run. I managed to lift some pics of me on the go from fb.

I've taken some glamour shots of the bike for a write up on the Australian Cafe Racer blog. Once there out and about I'll drop them on here to share.
