Hello Guys and Girls,

First up i would like to introduce myself. My name is Matt and im from Maitland NSW Australia and i am a green thumb in the bike world.
Fitter Machinist by trade and have been fiddling with engines and cars for quite a while. I have restored only 1 bike and it was for my little brother as he didnt have the time and i wanted something to do.

So i recently came across an old 1982 model cb250n at a friends house. It was his dads bike from way back that he had purchased brand new. So the short of it was he hadnt ridden it in 2 yrs so i asked if he was interested in getting rid of it. 2 days and $600 dollars later the bike arrived in my shed ready to be pulled apart and the fun to begin.

So i guess the main reason for this post is to gather information from the guys and girls on here as you know more about these things than i and i want to pick your brains while i share my build along. The time frame for this build is until its finished. No time restraints as i love working with my hands.

Parts i want to change out ect...
* Tank. These things are hideous tanks and i dont like the lines. I dont mind having to cut and shape and weld new mounts to this tank but wanted to know if anyone had any ideas???
* Seat. Will be making one.
* Bars. Thinking about going clip ons and thus probably changing the peg location to suit.
* Electricals inc the light, blinkers and the tail light.

* And the scary parts, the FRAME
This part is a little scary, im wanting to chop out the rear of the frame. The triangle part that the rear spring bolts onto and replace it with round tubing that will wrap up and over. Is this possiable? I know ill have to make some sort of gusset for the spring to bolt back onto and for extra strength.

so here is the bike. and a photo of what i want to get rid of on the frame.
And a photo of what i want it to look like when finished. I realise its a different bike so there will be fifferences but its just a rough guideline. Also it has the tubing at the rear that i want to change mine to if possiable.

So yeah please get back to me and let the learnings take flight
Cheers guys and girls

Oh and as you can see in the picture of what i want there is a small rear fender welded/bolted to the swing arm. i would do the same but extend it to meet NSW laws and regs

I have the same bike, I took a punt and bought a cb550 tank. It took a little bit of modification to fit but looks a hell of a lot better than the stock tank.
