Decided to start off small as I patiently await the UPS guy to deliver the first round of goodies to get the build started! So far just the side covers are done, thinking about doing the tank aswell but putting vinyl around compound curves is no joke!

Going to give the frame a quick clean/scuf/and shoot flat black to get rid of some of the surface corrosion.

R6 rear waiting to be mounted. Not going on the bike right now but since I was mounting other wheels/tires, might as well do it now!

140/90/16 Vee Rubber going on the rear.

Leave it to me to mount tires on a 95 degree day, but glad they are done. Harbor Freight tire irons work well. Not as hard as I thought it would be. After jumping on YouTube I saw how this guy removed the bead off the tire, and have to say, it works REAL well. I think I spent 10 minutes breaking the bead on 2 wheels.

valvesprung, I'd like to see how you do that mono shock as I will be doing a '99-'02 R6 swingarm over winter. Can't stand having downtime during riding season lol

Yeah I hear that...I have a KZ400 on the road now, so I wasn't worried about time.We haven't jumped into the fab part, but it will be well documented when I get there.

early 90's GSXR rear swingarms are near bolt on's for old Kaw's. 5mm machined off each side of pivot and it basically bolts on. run a 10mm offset countershaft sprocket and your good to go. some of the wider rears will require an outer bearing support. Dont forget to brace the headstock and the tubes near the back of the tank and the swingarm pivot area. the newer swing arms are much more stiff than the ones your replacing. The frame will pretzel in hard cornering without the necessary bracing. Old drag racer trick.

It appears my CBR swinger should slip right in as well. The 400 I was going to use, would've required some serious work. We'll be bracing abd gusseting the hell out of my 650.

That's beautiful work on that side cover. Even the weave is even. Very nice. I'll have to up my game.

Couldn't get the metal spacer or whatever off the bottom, and seeing as how I had to grind down the stem a bit.....

GRINDING!!!!!!!!!!!!

An hour later, spacer off and stem shaved down a bit

Perfecto

Grind the underside of the triple a bit so that it can sit a little lower in the top of the neck

Tomorrow, bleed brakes, throw on exhaust, wire up lights and should be roadworthy!

Forks are going to stay for now, I have sprayed what I can on the frame flat black, and the tank will probably be sanded down to bare metal, with a clear put over it for the rest of this season. Plans are to get shorter cables for everything, an all in one speedo/tach, and then wrap the tank in the same vinyl as the side panels. May pull the motor and give it a good cleaning, frest paint, etc. The carbs need work and pretty sure the clutch needs to be replaced aswell. All over winter of course lol

It was hot as hadies yesterday so only a little progress. Brakes mounted up and bled. Also installed headlight bucket and turn signals. Not a fan at all of the signals, but they will get me on the road. Plan is to take the shorter, front signals and put them on the rear, and get aftermarkets for the front.

Can you do me a favor and measure the swing arm width at the mount? I'm going over swingarm options for a 78 xs650 and it'd be nice to know what's out there.

Not much left to update on. Finally got all the wires mashed into the headlight, and tossed on a light I had lying around to get it streetable. I guess my plate can double as a fender no lol?
