1982 Virago 920 engine up build

Freaking awesome build, this is the new standard for every next XV project.........jealous mode ON/OFF

I especially love the tank/seat combination with the homemade frame and the wheels and the front fork and, and, and...... 8) :)

Very strong effort, I like your work, excellent. I would anodize the headlight bezel to match the wheels. I know you want/need to sell this bike but someday you'll wonder why you did. I used to build custom guitars and every time I sold one it was like selling off a child.. well almost.
Again, great job.
Cheers, 50gary

The hardest thing (IMO) about messing with these old bikes is building something one off that looks factory. You've nailed it on every account. Amazing work.

So if you work for NASA is it a requirement to build your own Rocketship or something?

while i have never sold i a child, i do know what you mean. Sadly though we need the cash from the bike in order to live abroad for 6 months... so while i really wish that i had more time with it in completed form, and i will "regret" it is what has to be done. if there was a way to get cash for it and keep it i would be doing that.

thank you so much! that is what i was going for. now i am just working on making it run like it came from the factory. and pairing a yamaha throttle assembly to a harley carb... been putting this off for a reason.

thanks again for all the thought and comments guys them mean a lot.

Awesome work. Now about the throttle, why not buy a Harley throttle and adapt it to the bars, might be a lot easier.

I actually got the cable ends to work with the CV throttle by drilling them out, to a little under 1/4" and shortening them a bit. My problem with the harley throttle tubes is that they are almost all 1" The Buell Blast uses the same 40mm cv carb, but i discovered that after i got all my parts wired in. the blast throttle tube is integrated with the kill/start switch.

i have more info... but for right now.. i have a little teaser...

okay guys... here we go!

the bike is done, inspected and fully legal, so the obvious next thing to do would be to sell it right? Well, thats what i actuality have to do. so if you know anyone who wants it, spread the word, i am going to be putting it on on ebay to see if i get any interest. not really sure how to drum up interest too much but i gotta sell it.

so on to the gratuitous pictures... just for yall

and a little video. its about 25 degrees when the picture was taken and the bike wasnt warm hence the sluggishness

Sad to hear you have to sell it just after finishing it.

But, what are you hoping to get for it?

because i have a little bit of time before we leave i am putting it on ebay and starting the bidding which what i would love to get for it and see what happens. starting the bidding at $8k might be a bit high, but you cant raise the price once its sold.

here is a link to my ebay auction:

Incredible craftsmanship... Please do many more in the future! Good luck with sale... I think it will make someone very happy!

Looking good man nice work. Ya 8k might be a high start but you never know. I would have liked it more carbon fiber showing vs the paint personally. Especially with all the effort you put into it.

greatest build thread I have ever seen. I worked at NASA, but hell I was only health and safety.
great job, the bike should be photographed by a pro and laid out all over the internets! ;D

$8,000?.... Dont give it away.... Toss it on ebay a few times ....after you win bike of the month( which your nominated buddy) then get all sorts of magazines to take nice coffee shop pics ....

Me too. And It turned out even better than I expected. Love the paint and carbon racing stripes. I don't think I'd be able to sell it.

Outstanding all around sir!!
If I was in your situation (barring time constraints), I would get this bike out to the bike shows to drum up interest, media exposure and ultimately top dollar. Like Desmo said, it would be a shame to just give it away on ebay.
