If you decide to not tackle the wiring harness yourself, I recommend Sonreir on the forum here. He's a wiring genius. Look him up.

I'm in the middle of my bike rewiring. I've already done the ignition side. Its not that bad. Its easier if you use your current harness as a guide but just make a barebones from scratch. Since you have an older model you may have to run a few more wires. I was told to use a off/on/on ignition switch if you are using one.
