What do I do?
16may222012.jpg

I don't want to throw Friday away... please help me find an alternative.

Something reccommended to me by a friend who's had problems with engines on his cage was to get it "Hot Tank'd" by a local professional... any input on this possible decision? I await responses rather impatiently, as I really wish to get'er up'n running before summer. Riders Depression is kicking in... really bad.

Hey VB, I agree on your friend's opinion of hot tanking your engine/bits. saves hours of manual labour and does a swell job...Hope this reply isn't too late...
I noticed an Ontario license plate in the pic of you on your "new" GR..Where abouts you from? I just got a GR myself two weeks ago (traded my 63 Studebaker project for it...) and it happens to have a solo seat (springs are missing, but it's not harsh...) I plan to go more the cafe route, using either a bum-stop style or brat-style seat, either way, I'd be interested in swsapping you seats if proximity allows.

Wow - that base gasket has more silicon on it than a B grade Hollywood actress.

Seriously, whoever assembled that motor last time needs a kick in the nuts.

Hey vegan are you still around or did you bail on your project? I'm in Kitchener not to far from you. Also Tim the administrator lives close to you too. Lots of guys around in the area who would probably help you out if you're stuck. Let's get this thread going again!

First of all, I forgot about this forum.
Continued on my project since 2 weeks ago, huge progress, in my opinion.

I live in Streetsville, th'heart o'Mississauga, ON, for those curious.

It's my first bike.
Already named'er Friday for all the weekends I've spent day-dreaming,
staring at the clock, waiting to go home.. you think I'm'a drop'er like that?
I'm as loyal as the Royal Guard for Lord Palpatine from Star Wars.
So, no.. she's mine for good.. unless when I'm done I find another project.

Need a 14mm Allen or a 12 SW InHex to take off my suspension bar.
Cutting it off for a solo-seat suspension instead of rear-mounted, or...
I might place double-rear springs on the rear-bar, but want to do a chopper seat aswell, so...

Doesn't that look un-usable? I don't even care if I can fix it, I have plans!

24-Naked_zps3a02bae5.jpg

Built me a box.. needed more space.

Also; I shaved that mess of hair off my face, by the way.. rockin' a goatee now.
Turned 19, so it's been all good. College at Centennial for Motorcycle Technician (Apprenticeship) next year?

All I need is a job, so I can save up for my project, an'm'girlfriend.. and College.. clothing.. all that.

Oh, yeah.. almost forgot before posting... I made handlebars.. anyone like'em?

Need a 14mm Allen Key, or an InHex 12mm SW to take this off.

Last thing holding me back before sandblast.
(which I've been given the chance for free)

I got the nut from the suspension bar out.. how did you pull yours off? Is it threaded, needing a 14mm Hex, or did it drive out with a bang?

It's threaded, so the 14mm hex is required.

Hey Vegan
I've got a 14mm hex you can borrow if you need. Catch is, you have to come to Kitchener to get it and return it when I ask.
I also have a solo seat. Would you be interested in a swap? I'm looking for a factory seat. Nice job on those bars BTW.

I'll PM you directions if you're interested.

Girlfriends father made through.. found one at work!
Unfortunately his sandblasting booth is too small, but it's totally alright with me.
I'll find a way around it. How's your bike going?

What bike model.. this one? I'd totally trade if it's for a GR650. It's almost perfect condition.
I'll give you the locks for it too! Send or show me to some pictures.

Does it come with the spring set and mounting bracket?

It's done...

... well, mostly done. I bike like this is never really finished. I've made a couple little modifications to it that I will be posting in the build thread, and I have a few more mods to make, but it's running and it's a real blast to ride, so I'm really happy with it.

Congratulations.. you've done a damned fine job!
You really did get me going again on my bike.. so, I guess a "thank you" is in order?

Thank you.. a lot.

Its a '84 GR. The seat is i universal piece.
I've got a mounting bracket, no springs though. The guy I got the bike from just had the seat sitting on some bolts. It's not the least bit harsh with the factory suspension. Just not to my taste. Makes it really low, like also. I'm kind of tall at 6'3", so its not the most comfortable for the old knees...

Oh, you can have the Maltese cross tail light too if you're into that fashion...not my style

I'm actually 6'2" myself; to boot, I'm using Ape hangers.

1. Solo-Seat w/Ape's pushed forward for comfort
312R_on_Bobber.jpg

2. Solo-Seat pushed back w/straight-up Ape's
bobber%20002.jpg

3. Chopper Seatw/Fender and Ape's pushed back to help me lean into it, but
...the thing with that, is.. I don't know, or how often I'll be riding with a passenger...
and that's IF she's comfortable riding on my 650.

- LAST ONE STANDING UP -

I don't even know what kind of seat I actually want quite yet..
which is a huge dilema, because I want this bloody bike done before the next season.
See, the sad truth is.. I've never ACTUALLY ridden before.. ever...
Just bought this bike n'started workin' on'er.. but the thing with that is;
I'm going to college for this.. this interests me that much.

ALSO; if the headlight I bought for my bicycle when I was a wee little one way back when doesn't work...
where the hell do I find a headlight, without paying too much? I think I'd even be fine jumping through four hoops o'fire in a junkyard.

Going to go find it and take a picture of it.. hol'up.

If I end up comin' by, I'd love to take it! My standard one.. jus'don'like it; too plain.

Nevermind on that little light.. it's a tiny little 2.4w "bike lamp" and I'm looking for something a bit nicer, so.. any suggestions?
