I want to swap my 2 up seat out for something more sporty, but still wanna be able to have my wife hop on for a ride. Does anyone know a site that makes prefabbed seats with pans?

Dime city has some brat seats and check this out:

You'll pay for them though - they're not cheap. Making your own out of a road sign / fiberglass / memory foam and having it professionally covered will cost about $200 ballpark.. if you can find a road sign that isn't being used and you for sure that it's not wanted anymore cos stealing one off the side of the road is something I would never recommend at all - and I also certainly not advise making sure you take a razor blade so you can take the "property of city xxx' sticker" off the back before putting it in your truck...

Find a ratty old seat pan on eBay (cheaper the better). Then use that pan as a base for a cafe style seat since it will go on and off like the original.

That sounds like a great idea

yeah, actually for a CB it might be as there's certainly more common. I looked for the XJ and found nothing less than $200 on ebay.

Well right now I'm.just planning everything. My wife and I are intending to buy a house next spring so I have quite a while before I have a garage. Just found another tutorial with using the original seat pan. Maybe by the end of next summer my seat will be ratty enough for me to not feel guilty tearing it apart haha

If you don't plan on changing the mounts you could keep your original seat for 2-up and fabricate a seat with a hump for 1-up. This is my plan.. I want to be able to take the wife out on it occasionally but this is not very often. I have 2 reasons for doing this. The stock seat will be much more padded and comfortable for her than a brat seat on an XJ as the frame bends up at the pillion, and secondly putting a hump makes it possible to make the seat look straight and keep the back wheel arch inside the hump.

Thats a good idea too. I could track down a cheap stock seat to just use the pan off of. then keep the one i have now for when the wife wants to go for a ride. no fiddling with fabricating mounts. just gotta find a place where the lights and such look good on both seats. but here in the north we have a loooooooong winter haha.
