36 vs 40 spoke

Been Around the Block
Could be overthinking this. But noticed some big bikes have 36 spoke wheels and others 40. Also some big heavy 4ls drums have 36 or 40.

Is there actually a difference? Are 40 spokes superior to 36? Or is there no difference due to a varying size of gauge being employed?

Sorry if it sounds like a moronic query ;D

Harleys brit bike, bmws & honda run 40 spoke so my guess is slow bikes run 40's

You "could be over thinking this" ??? really....ya think
The difference is 4

I see you edited your post Brad. Did you get the math wrong the first time?

Have you ever gotten a bike far enough from your house to find out?

It's all to do with weight of bike
Many brit bikes used 36 front and 40 rear unless a sidecar was fitted when they would do 40/40 or even 40/48 (but that was real rare by 1950's)
Honda used 40 on 450 and above

GT750 is a v heavy bike compared to most Brit bikes. The first models had a 4ls 36 spoke front?
