4.50x18 on a CB450....

Hi just wondered if anybody had done this and had any issues, front and back?

The tyres recommend a 2.15 rim, would I be right in thinking the standard rear on a CB450 is 1.85?? Newbie questions again sorry.

I'm aware its not what Honda would have wanted and it'll drive like its on a rail......... ;D

Cheers

Adam

im running a 120/80 18 on the back of my Honda CB450. Its a little too wide for the rim. The tire kinda crowns at the top...not enough to make me notice it handle any worse, it just looks a little wierd. I wouldnt recommend putting anything wider up front though, not without a wider rim. Im running a 100/90 and it fits perfect IMO

Don't go bigger than 90/90 front and 110/90 rear.
Changing rims would be best thing to do, even with the sizes mentioned

how rude. you are the crazy one PJ. I had a 110 on the rear of my CJ360 and a 105 front...also fit like a glove and had no problems. I may be an ijit, but i gets the results that make me happy.

Jokes don't come across so well in print ;)
That's all that really all that matters though, if it works for you, it works for you 8)
You shouldn't be giving advice on only your experience and riding style
Slightly oversize tyres can work for racing but just wear out quicker with street use as they 'crown' too much and you get reduced contact patch when upright.
If your grinding chunks off the undercarriage they may work well
The sizes I tell people to use really are the maximum for reasonable handling
Cornering gets noticeably better when wider rims are fitted with 90/90f and 110/90r on all of the smaller Honda's (350~550)
It's Brendon's view after using stock rims and wider rims on CB360
He had not been riding more than a year when we swapped rims so it is probably more relevant than my viewpoint? (I've been riding almost 44 yrs, no idea just how many miles I've covered on bikes around 7~800,000, a lot at '29mph, officer' ;D )
I ran dealer workshops for a long time, (since I was 21) and I raced off road so tend to 'ride around' issues

I'm running a 110/80/18 on a 2.15 front and a 160/60/18 on a 4.5 rear on my CL360.

I would run a 2.5 front rim but I can't find one cheap.

That's got to slow it down ;D
Must corner fantastic though, pics of chunks ground off ;)

I'm 6'3" and weigh 200 pounds. No sense worrying about a huge tire slowing down a little bike since I already look huge on it.

What do you mean chunks ground off? Chucks of the tire ground off? Offset sprockets keep the chain away from the tire if that's what you were getting at.

Does a 160 even fit in the swingarm?

No, it won't, not on a stocker. I'm running a 130 on a custom arm and its tight.

Nope, I meant leaning over far enough that something starts dragging (exhaust, alternator cover, etc ;D )

No it doesn't. I'm using a FZR600 swingarm.

The exhaust doesn't drag because I'm currently using CL pipes. The alternator cover doesn't rub because I raised the bike to fit me better because I'm tall. It actually feels and rides a lot like a supermoto. I don't remember what the exact measurement is but I've got roughly 12" of ground clearance on my bike.
