540cc Honda 360 Engine

That's a LONG intake run for a high reving NONE torque monster engine.... JMO. I'd be interested to see how it performs across the rpm range.

Bike's shaping up awesome though.

That intake length looks like it may be suitable for 3rd wave, maybe 4th. Not sure why such a long standoff between the carbs and the head, though. A bit of increase in that area isn't a bad idea if you're running long durations at the cam, but I'm not sure about the effect that will have (if any).

Also... I wasn't sure if this was yet mentioned, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this bike is being built by a "car guy". ;)

Intake looks about correct length although it would have been better to put carbs closer to head and have filters roughly where they are now
Should be easy enough to shorten though and I suspect that's what will happen to get better length

Correct length for what? ;-) They appear to be a first order wave length for lowish rev peak torque.

Many years ago we tried a range of different intake lengths on the same motor from ridiculously short to rather long and the difference was imperceptible. That was interesting, but inconclusive so I went back to the most convenient length. There is no doubting the ingenuity and ability of the builder.

Stock Honda intake acts like it's about 18~22" long, majority are way too short to have any pulse effect at operating rpm
Long time ago I did bunch of math for friend racing CB350, I think minimum length was about 13" to valve head @11.500 ~12,000rpm

Sonreir, What makes you think this is being built by a "car guy"? Just curious.

Also here is what the builder had to say about the intake runner length:
"I've always wanted to try longer runners but of course there's never any
room. So with a long stroke, somewhat limited ports and less than
perfect rotating balance,(at least in prototype engine) and the space,
I thought to enhance low end torque somewhat. Without testing it will
be hard to tell anything. We'll see what happens."

Some more photo's...the muffler is back and should be in it's final position...and brake and shift levers.

this is an amazing bike. this is the first bike i have seen here that has dived this deep into the performance pool.

being a car guy myself, i can see that the builder more than likely has built a few drag cars that where tubed and caged, and his massive use of hem joints tells me hes probably set up a 4 link or 2 before.

the bike screams "drag car" to me with the massive tubing and the curves in the frame remind me of a roll cage.

Great fab skills, but pegs on the swingarm are not such a great idea on a bike. It's worth checking for cornering clearance with that underslung drag car muffler arrangement too. I can't tell from the pics if it's OK or might be an issue.

No one thing in particular, but it's just a hunch and I've come to trust my intuition over the years.

Care to confirm or deny my suspicions?

I agree with Sonreir....The aesthetics of the bike, the stance, seem to say hot rod, rather than hot cycle....nothing totally specific, just little things.

For instance, the frame looks look a full NASCAR cage rather then a motorcycle frame. It has the look of a weight lifter, rather than a gymnast.

It is definitely "overbuilt" and maybe that's a significant part of the observation.

Not that it is a good or bad thing, but it is similar to how a Crown Vic police special looks a little tougher then the LX version grandpa down the street drives.

The bike looks more car tough then bike tough....

To be honest, i do not think this frame will be better than stock. Sure, it's stiffer i guess, but heavier aswell. Or did they use Chromoly tubes? Frame's a bit overdone and square for my taste.

Non the less, killer machine and i wish i had the machines and skills.

Hey folks, Here is some info from the builder:

Here's a picture at 45*, suspension not compressed. I know that's
more than enough clearance for my ability. Subtract 2" for compression
and still 2". Pegs do fold if need be.
I have built more cars than bikes, so you are right from that stand
point. The last 3 bikes have all started with a pile of straight tube
and no drawings, so there is a lot of evolution. I like to do things
differently, that does not necessarily mean it's better, just
different.
The frame is mostly .062 wall, and I did weigh it but don't
remember what it was now (around 20 lbs). A few more small tabs and mounts
to be welded on, then apart for paint. I'll weigh it then and report.

If anyone has a CB500T twin cam piston, I would like to know the
weight, Thanks.

stock 360 frame with tabs cut off is around 27~28 lbs, depending on just how much cutting is done.
That frame should be far more rigid than stock plus lighter is better ;D

jup. i did not think it was only 20lbs...

Wow! Crazy build. It's like God created the Heavens and the Earth. Then he said "Let there be a completely redesigned cb360", and there was a completely redesigned cb360. God looked at it and saw that it was good.
