Haha exactly. I couldn't last more than 10 minutes on a bike with stock foot peg position and clip-ons... I'm not even old, and I don't have a bad back. But to each his own!
turns out there was no play in the throttle cable and they were slightly open. I disconnected the cable and it idled just fine. Good to know it was just something I overlooked instead of a problem I'd have to track down
Ok guys. So if you live in Texas and you buy an untitled bike here's what you gotta do-
Best thing to do is start by trying to figure out if the motorcycle is stolen~ preferably before you buy
If the bikes not stolen you should be good to go~
I called the non emergency police number and they were nice enough to transfer me to an officer in his car and he looked it up for me right there on the spot...
But that isn't protocol as far as I know so the dmv will have to check that for you based on your VIN
What you are after is a bonded title~
If your bike has never been registered in Texas you are after a form 68-A which is basically saying that the VINS match~
BUT! The thing to do in my opinion is get the bike together and running and take it to a local inspection place and get a VIR~ Make sure you have insurance before this step
that's a vehicle inspection report, the bike has to be in a shape that it will pass inspection for that to work. But it's much easier and cuts out a little paper work~
You will also need a bill of sale ( it really comes into play more than you think especially when you go to pay taxes )
A VTR-270 a VTR-130 and a VTR-125~
These are all forms you can print on the texDot website and are necessary to the process in one way or another
Sounds like allot but it's really not bad. Just fill out your forms properly, get the 68-a or the VIR done before you ever go in and be sure and take 15$ cash to the DMV when you go. I had to pay in mostly change because I never carry cash. They don't love that.
With the VIR and forms filled out you can go in and get your paperwork done and they will tell you you need a surety bond. There are all sorts of local agencies to do that, or your insurance company. ~
They set the cost of your bond at 1.5 times the estimated value. Mine ended up being like 125$. I think they valued it at 6k (I don't know why)
As soon as you get your bond you can go down to the tax office and get registered and plated all at once. ~
You'll have to pay taxes and registration fee at that time. (Taxes calculated off bill of sale price) mine ended up being 84$~
Then blamo they hand you plates right there and your VIR counts as inspection and you are good to go that day!
Learn from our mistakes do your paperwork in the right order and the process is easy and relatively cheap~
Cb160 - we put in a stator from a cb360. Also we made homemade baffles for it off a link we found. Of course we didn't take any pics of the process like idiots. Re jetted the carbs to 100. Hopefully that'll help it. Gonna put it back on the ground tonight and try an assortment of jets see what works best. We will post our findings.
Yamaha xs360- running! Off the lift. Thermal wrapping the exhaust. Got the throttle and clutch cables sorted out for the most part at least may take some tweaking. Idles pretty well revs pretty smoothly. All the electronics work Including The slick as RF key that lets you see in a tiny tag to your gloves or use small plastic disc to act as the key for the bike. Now it's a matter of sorting out the rear set brake controls and front drum. And then some extended seat time. Woo. Oh yea it's legal too now which is kinda important
Cb750 - still off the lift most of the time. Pulled the cover off to set the gap on the pulse generator. They were pretty far off. Also there was a white milky petroleum based film on them. That can't be good. Cleaned them up set them and it seems to help allot. Brought the idle down at least and is faster than its been before. The problems now happen higher up the rpm range. Just won't do much after 5000 rpm? Gonna check the timing and see if the advancer is working. Also thinking about replacing the accelerator pumps in the carbs. But dread pulling it apart again. Oh well. Also I feel like the petcock isn't letting fuel through once it gets to about 3/4 of the filter screen above the gas line? Not sure what to do there yet
As always any advice is appreciated
Almost forgot I put remote terminals on the 750. I love them.
POWDERFINGER!!!!! you were right my pods were seated against the carbs too closely! Revs past 5 grand no problem! Big time thanks, I'd of pulled the engine apart before I went back and checked that.
Maybe it's time to lay off the garage whiskey
Still pops like a sumbitch but I think that's valves... Got my valve tool in yesterday gonna take the shims out and mic me see what I'm working with
