66 Honda 305 Dream

Spoonz

Been Around the Block
Started doing a restoration for a gentleman on his Honda Dream. He already did the frame and asked if I could take care of the engine for him. So here are some pics of the almost finished engine.

There was a time when I detested those bikes. I would eat dirty shorts to have one now, luv the look of that canted engine.

I'm not a big fan of them myself, but I didn't want to see the guy part out his restoration because he was not comfortable redoing the engine. I'm just waiting for him to get me the covers when he is done polishing them.

Hi Spoonz,
Love the resto work on your mate's engine - looks better than new!
I'll put this question in the wheels and brakes section of the site but wondered if you're near enough to the rest of the bike to measure the front brake drum diameter for me; I posted this question on another site awhile back but no response yet...
Thanks,
Pat

I never realized the older Honda's had a chain primary drive.

I was staring at the tensioner, saying, "what is that?" then realized it isn't gear like the later ones.

It is a pretty engine.

I didn't realize it was a chain drive till I pulled the cover off, figured it was gear drive too. And thanks for the compliment on the almost finished engine. I got some of the covers back and will post some pics when I get them mounted.

Pat, I do not have the rest of the bike with me at this time. I may be able to still get a measurement for you, but it may take me alittle time.

Another little thing that had me wondering, I thought the picture was mirrored/reversed. the clutch is also on the opposite site as well as the counter shaft....

Lot's of little differences

That's looking good. Only tiny detail that isn't 100% original is the starter. They were silver. If it's not a retso, that doesn't matter.

Awesome motors - well at least the CB versions are. A classic design.

The paint is not correct for a true resto. It's cast aluminum paint and not the grey that it should be. The case covers have been polished so the paint being off isn't really a big deal. The bike is not going to a museum, it's going to be riden. So I guess it's more of a resto/mod.

It's right side drive too.

I always painted the cases that same sort of silver. That's how they came.

Do you have a picture of the camshaft arrangement and points cam, just to really blow people's minds?
