69 cb350 replacing headlight ears and fork covers

Hey guys, I am getting some new headlight ears and fork covers for my 69 cb350. I am about confused as I cannot seem to find the answer. My for seals are good. I just need to replace the ears and covers. Do I need to drain fluid? Is the proper method, remove wheel and fender. Remove headlight. Loosen nut on lower triple tree. Pull out forks. Pull off covers and ears. Replace and reverse order. or do I need to remove the top bolt on the triple tree? Thanks in advance!

With the 69 you have a bolt on top of the triples that threads into the conical top of the forks. Remove that.
No need to drain fluid, just don't spill it as the top of the fork will be open
