Nicely done. I'm thinking of doing a similar setup since the stock exhaust is in the way of the rear sets. Great work.
thank you. the main reason for the two into one was rearset position, im 6' or a tad taller with long legs and biting my knee caps every time i went on a long ride got old pretty quick. i had a set of aluminum plates "cnc-ed" but even with those mounted onto the top of the passenger peg location to raise the rearsets up away from the pipes, i still felt like my legs were too "schrunched" up. i think the 4-5 inches i gained by being able to use the lowest hole on the passenger peg mount will work out very well. it is afterall, where almost everyone with 350's mounts them. :)

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

im getting the exact same bike soon, except the owner is not giving it away, but its very reasonable.
Since i dont se any pics, what did you cut if anything under the new seat?

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

somewhat better outdoor photos.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

so it looks like the rearsets are going to be delayed, as i now have to cut off the kickstand mount and move it farther forward on the lower frame rail. when up, it is in the way of the shifter big time. :(

if i remember correctly, the only thing i cut was the seat hinge mounts. there may be one or to other tabs or mounts that need cutting, but i cant remember off the top of my head right now. itll make sense when you have the bike in front of you with the upper frame rails exposed.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

Cool thanks.
I like this build. Simple, looks good. now polish up those drums :)

Twins?

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

holy crap. that is an identical twin (minus the bars) to my bike when i got it. i even put on those same mufflers i had laying around for a few days till i started tearing into her. yours looks alot cleaner than mine though. you my friend, have a clean little scoot, and a very nice foundation for a build. looking forward to seeing it come together.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

figured out the side stand issue. got some 1x1 square stock and cut one of the sides out so it would sit flush on the rails. then i marked, drilled and tapped 2 holes to mount the cb175 side stand i had from my other bike.

rode over to my buddys place to have him weld on the new bracket i made. boogered it on there and soon found that the 2 bolts holding it on werent gonna be enough strength, as the side stand pivot piece was bending around 2 two bolts. scratched the bolt idea and just decided to weld that sucker on there. didnt really care to smooth out the welds, as you cant see them from standing up next to the bike, only if you knelt down to look at it. then took the torch and bent it a hair, as it was a tad shorter than the stock side stand. now it sits where the stock one did. hit it with some satin black paint and called it done.

rode the bike home with 2 side stands. haha brought her into the house to start on the rearsets. got the shift side mounted and done. taking a break to post this and have some dinner, will start on the brake side in a few. updates tonight.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

Its lookin' great! I had to laugh when you mentioned leaving it stock because right there I knew you wouldn't.
Mind if I ask where you got your headlight ears?

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

the headlight ears i got from the shop i work at. they had been laying in a parts bin for quite some time. they are the same thing as the emgo ones that are all over ebay. i just cut them down and reshaped them.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

Looking really good, I'm thinking about getting some of those white grips.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

sweet, ill TRY to check them out. Last time I bought things from emgo, half their site was under construction... and still is!

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

brake light switch is done. not the most aesthetically pleasing, but it works.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.

back from the dead.

been busy with life, and all the hurdles it throws. ive been trying to work on the bike whenever i can sneak a little bit of time in. i got tired of looking at the old crusty motor, so i decided to sand it down, clean her up and give it a new coat of paint. took out all the OG hardware and replaced it with stainless allen bolts, as well as the acorn nuts on top, and polished the two smaller covers. (sorry for all the crap photos in advance)

started to bevel the sprocket cover speed holes to see if i like it. still need to finish this, as the biggest holes on the inside arent done yet.
z4.jpg

i figured since everything is apart and the tank is off, i might as well go ahead and replace the ignition system. i won a set of new Dyna's on ebay and ordered some 7mm copper cored plug wire and made some new plug wires. the plug boots are NGK's i got off of ebay as well.
z5.jpg

i started searching around on here and saw the post on adapting the stock coil mount to fit the Dynas. i soon got a little too "chop happy" with the sawzall and ruined my og bracket. so, i have to ordered another one and wait for it to come. in the mean time i messaged DrJ and he told me about a guy over on hondatwins that have made their own brackets. (my buddy who has a tig is out of town for a while) so i found a photo of a guy who cut it in half, drilled two new holes in his frame and made it work with the longer Dyna coils. this worked perfect. its all pretty mashed and tight in the frame window, but it fits.

these photos are pretty bad and too dark, but you get the idea. ::)

everything is nice and solid now and shoved in that little area.

and that brings it up to why all this happened in the first place. i got tired of having two red bikes, and looking at the crappy paint job. all this started when i took off the tank and tail for my buddy to bodywork and paint. he has been taking his time with it, so i had time to "revamp" the motor and ignition system. these photos were before he smoothed out the one dent on the top of the knee indent.

as of now, im waiting on him to go buy the paint and loads of clear for the tank and tail. as far as a color goes, lets just say the bikes new name when done is going to be "warm beer." ill update this as paint is laid down.

Re: 71 cb350. round two.
