wow awesome build build so far, i have the same seat from hot wing glass, is the rubber grommet the only thing holding the tail light in place? i want to mount my light the same way u did.

yes. the grommet is "ribbed" on the outside with a lip as well. the lens of the light has a lip on it as well and it is a very tight fit. it takes a good pry from the inside of the seat to get her to come out.

well no upholstery update, but a little one none of the less.

decided to finish what i needed to do to get the bike running again. out the tank on, cut new fuel lines with stone filters, put the cross over back on with a motion pro quick disconnect, cleaned the inside and outside of the petcock, put in new float bowl gaskets, as well as cleaned up and polished the float bowls.

put fuel in the tank and started her up. started up 2nd kick but is only running on one cylinder. i didnt run it long as it doesnt have alot of oil in it. ill try and figure out why tomorrow when i do an oil change and have more time to figure out if its spark or fuel related.

Well.... bad news.

Walked down stairs to have a smoke and smelt gas. Thought maybe one of the fuel lines going to the carbs was leaking but no. My luck, it's one of the cross over bungs. Looks to be cracked some how and slowly pissed gas out, across the crossover to the lowest point and down onto my motor. Now I have a nice fuel and paint puddle on the floor and some awesome streaks running down the sprocket cover. Man, nothing can be simple. Gonna take it back over to my buddies tomorrow to see if he can weld it or stick some bubble gum around it. So bummed.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

took the tank to my buddies today and he put a 2 part gas tank sealer around the trouble spot. im letting that cure today and ill add a nice big fat layer of jb weld around the whole thing tonight just for structural rigidity. hopefully this should cure the leak.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

the bike is officially pissing me off. at first it was only running on one cylinder, so i took the plugs out and held each one, kicked it over slowly, got shocked by both plugs, so i know ive got spark. i then went to the carbs and took the float bowls off and the jets out to make sure they werent clogged. got the bike to run on both cylinders partially but it is still running very rough and im not sure what it is. has anyone had issues with these dyna coils before? im still thinking its fuel related, but then again who knows. here a video of the bike running. it will only run if i keep my hand on the throttle. quality isnt that great but perhaps to the right set of ears, it may yield a suggestion or remedy.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

Take your time and be methodical. I wish I was far enough along to suffer from tuning issues. Weather permitting I'm pulling the head off tonight. My engine hasn't run in years... Since you put pod filters on maybe she's getting more air and needs some richinging up to compensate? Hard to hear the video at chipotle and in a massive line.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

The bike ran fine before I took the tank and tail off for paint. The bike has sat indoors for the last few months. The only thing I changed was the ignition. New dyna 3ohm coils, 7pm copper cored wires, Ngk plug boots. I took each plug out, one at a time, held the Plug in my hand and kicked it over. Both plugs shocked me, so I know I'm getting spark, but I don't know if it's adequate or if it's firing correct. I don't see why anything would've changed spark wise but you never know. The only thing I can think related to a spark related issue, is perhaps I have the wrong plug caps. The eBay auction said they were for a cb350, but who knows. Maybe someone with a Set of Ngk plug caps could chime in and post the number printed on theirs so I could compare.

The last thing I can think of is perhaps the little vent in the float bowl overflow got clogged when I was polishing them, which may be causing the fuel to rise too far and keep the float up too high. Who knows, I'm just trying to think of anything and everything. :(

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

might i ask what tail light you are running and where u found that grommet ;D

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

grommet came with the light, and it was purchased on ebay.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

the tank sealer dried nice n hard, so i figued id throw a coat of jb weld around it for good measure. the tank sealer alone was probably enough, but i dont want to risk it and i DONT want any more damn leaks! taking this tank off and putting it back on over and over is getting old. its not the prettiest job, but i think itll hold up. plus its under the tank so itll be mostly hidden.

im gonna slap the tank on tomorrow and put on new fuel lines w/o stone filters to see if that helps the carb issue at all, as ive had trouble with those filters in the past. but knowing me, it probably wont change anything and ill be back at square one. ::)

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

I've had similar problems. When you increase your airflow as much as you do with pods, its a good idea to rejet to compensate.(as mentioned by Dyrden). I looked through your thread and didn't see any mention of a rejet. Also what do you have your pilot screws set at as well as the throttle adjustment screw? Hard to tell from the video but it sounded also like I could hear a slight tick? Microphones/speakers can be misleading. Looks like fun otherwise.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

the bike has been rejetted some time back, had been and was running fine when i parked it a few months ago. i didnt touch the carbs when the bike was sitting while the bodywork was getting painted. the only thing i did was add the dynas, plug wires, and NGK plug caps. thats it. thats why im so stumped as to why it would be fuel related since the bike ran great before i took the tank and tail off for paint....

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

I've a sneaky feeling you should pull the carbs apart and check them for something choking them up. Is it possible something from the tank fouled the carbs? Grasping at straws I know.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

There is a chance its in that carb. I'd pull the float bowl drain screw and make sure plenty of fuel comes out. Have a water bottle handy to flush any dripped fuel off fresh paint. Doesn't mean fuel is getting into the cyl, just means it's getting to the carb. Little or no fuel could mean a stuck or dirty float valve or the float is out of adjustment or has a problem. Have you recently lined the tank? make sure the vent in the cap is working and not plugged.

That stumble and slight backfiring sounds like timing to me. Make sure you have a nice fat blue spark at both plugs. Check that the coil wires are plugged in and not switched on the one side. Make sure the connector terminal at the points has not turned and is grounding itself on the points case. Sometimes the insulating washers at the points can fail or be miss aligned and cause the points to be grounded. Then do a static time. Once you get good at it it only takes about a half hour.
While your checking things make sure your regulator is working properly. If it is failing and over regulating you could have a drop in voltage feeding the coils. just throwing some things out there that you can check real quick. Main thing is keep it simple.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

does anyone know if a cb360 and cb350 coils are interchangeable? maybe a cb450 and cb350 are as well? need some help on the ignition system.

Re: 71 cb350. Warm Beer. running like shit now, video inside. HELP!

Well the bike now idles and rus good. I'm an idiot and didn't realize the condenser had to be grounded, and I had left mine zip tied to the frame as it was when I was mocking all the ignition components up. Put 2 bolts through it and the frame and it is now good again. Only problem now is one of the cross over bungs in the tank is clogged, but atleast she rips again!

Sweet! It's always some mundane detail... I hope I don't run into too many. Keep her clean for December! One of us needs to take home a trophy.

got the pad back from the upholstery shop this afternoon. went home, slapped it on, started the bike and it would only run on once cylinder. took the points cover off, checked the points, all seemed fine. checked the plugs and found i had a bad plug. new plug = bike running great and haulin ass! well maybe i just havnt ridden it in a few months so it seemed fast. ;D pictures are no good since i was running out of sunlight, but you get the idea.
