73' CB175 build

Hi guys. First post but I've leeched a lot of good info from here in the past. Just wanted to put up my CB175 build and see if anyone can help source a couple of parts.
Here's the little beast, waiting on a few parts but almost rideable.

I'm having a little trouble finding sprockets for this little guy. I want to run a 15T front / 39T rear / 428 chain to get a little more top speed. Anyone have a source for small bike sprockets? All I can find in this size are for the Sachs MadAss. From what I've read the CB175 vintage race guys run this size so they must be out there somewhere.

Here the build blog for those interested:- http://silver-over-red.blogspot.com/

Thanks!

I'm running and 15T Front / 35T Rear / 428 DID chain. Sprockets are JT, at least the rear is, I can't remember if the front was the same brand. (JTR269.35) I pick them both up at a local Honda shop.

It was ridden before I tore it down, but it didn't run well at all. After tearing the motor apart I know why. :D

That site is nice. I like that it shows you the gear ratio's. So I'll be running something pretty high, so that it accelerates faster than a scooter. Hopefully the top speed won't be devastated.

Mine ran pretty rotten before the teardown and runs great now. Just changed all the gaskets and got the timing and cam chain tension right. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think with your gear ratio (2.33?) it'll gain some top speed but lose a little acceleration. I think your front sprocket is stock so the difference won't be huge. The CB has a nice little motor in it, I wouldn't worry too much about scooters :p

Gear ratios are a funny thing. If you think of that chart as the "higher" gear ratios up top and the "lower" gear ratios the further you go down. Gear ratio number are backwards so to speak, so a high gear ratio is a lower number, and vice versa. So my 2.33 is a "higher" ratio than your 2.44. Higher = acceleration, lower = top speed.

Did you do anything to the tensioners other than ensure they were adjusted right?

I think the cam chain tensioner is basically self adjusting. You just loosen the lock nut enough so that it (the rod thing with the weight on the end) drops down onto the end of the tensioner assembly then re-tighten it. It should drop down into the right position. Just be careful tightening because the bolt is very weak.

Ya, that's what I figured. I just want to make sure I get it adjusted right. I had to rebuild the head since the valves were bent and I think it could have been due to the tensioner not being adjusted right.

Actually I was hoping to build it this year and race it at New Hampshire next year so I won't be selling it. There are a couple here locally for sale on Craigslist but one of them is pretty ratty and the other is paperless :-\

I got sick of sitting on the frame rails trying out the bike and I'm a cheap bastard so I did some fiberglassing this weekend rather than buying a seat. Not perfect by any stretch but it'll do for now. Started with some scrap aluminum and made a mold out of expanding foam and bondo then fiberglassed it and did a lot of filling and sanding. Cheap and functional.

That's the eventual plan ;D I know nothing about racing but figured the little CB would be a good start.

The headers were starting to rust again so I hit them with some flat black. My other set of pipes came in off ebay and they are barely rusty but I think I prefer the black anyway :p

Now just waiting on a chain and I can do some test rides!

Nice.

Hey, if its not to much trouble, could you note everything that you are drilling for safety wire. I will eventually do that with mine whenever the wife is done with the bike and I can see about racing it.
