73 CB500 Throttle response

Need help, after warm up and choke off, rapid throttle movement kills engine. if I add a little choke throttle response is good.

Any ideas?

please answer ALL these questions one at a time.

do you have a header?

do you have the air box?

do you have stock carbs?

do you have the stock jets?

is it rideable in a normal manner?

can you post photos of the spark plugs and tell us how long they have been there?

dous is burbele and sputter whghewn you do that oior does it seem like it is just out of gas?

diofd you check the timing?


it is most likely lean

Answers to all the above questions will hopefully make short work of this issue. I might repeat a couple.

It will help if you can tell us if this issue appeared suddenly or over time, and also if there were any recent changes, even regular maintenance items to the bike.

It certainly sounds as if you could possibly be lean on at least the pilots. There can be many causes, depending on many of the questions barnett asked.

Pilot circuits can become dirty over time. They can become dirty suddenly as well.

Does it blow black smoke when you take off slowly from a stop? If so it could be rich. A severely dirty air filter can cause this. Lean on Air = Rich on Fuel. Its gotta be really rich to kill it. That probably isnt it. But it could be.

Partially blocked pilot air bleeds can cause this issue.

Is the idle smooth? Carbs out of sync could cause this issue.

Got gas? It happens. Hehe.
