Just about finished with the mockup of my cb 450 racer, chopped and sectioned rear fender, added bomber tank and clubmans, and finishing up seat pan mod. Not yet done are the rear sets based on paulsmiths. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=7970.msg70594#msg70594 nice job Paul. I am trying to make it look like it was put together in the 60's. Post more pic's as I go.

Ok here is a site I will post pic's as I go. I am working on rearsets now that will use the rear passenger holes but be more forward, maybe even use the existing pegs, like I sais I would like it to look like it was done in the 60's, I think I came up with a way to use the existing brake lever by using a lever action of the front foot peg mount, if it works I will post that as well. Thanks for the reply's

finished rearset for shift side and am working on brake side. The brakes are a little more work but will allow me to keep all the original parts including the brake light switch. I will post more pics hear and on the webshot site when done. thanks

Finished the rearsets, very happy with set up, as I am trying to make this bike look like it was built in the 60's I did not want to use the rearsets I have seen for sale, not that they dont look good, they just would not look right on this bike. I had first used the passenger peg as a mount but it did not feel good so I welded a bracket to the triangle shaped opening in the frame, the bracket is the same for the shift and brake sides I used the old passeger foot pegs which works real well for the brake side as it folds up for kick star. to fabricate I used 1/8 steel plate and 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch round bar, I bent the round bar old school, heat and beat. For ball joints I used Burns Q-D Ball Joint 1/4-28 Quik Disconnet ball joints I purchased at a Internationl Harvester Implement Store. The shift side has a sealed bareing in it for ease of movement, the brake side had a second bracket with a 14mm bolt for a pivit point to which I attached a steel coller and welded my brake pedal and pivit arm. I have many more pics at http://rides.webshots.com/album/579634585eUzthb This set up works for me, keeps my knees up by the tank and not the cylinders and my rists and neck feel good as well, Im sure I could ride for and hour or so before I felt tired of the position, would need a cig anyway. I am not recommending this for anyone else as it is hand fabricated and your welds need to be solid. Im just saying I like it and it works for me.

Looks great, nice work and love the seat. For a true 60's look, ditch the front disc brake and go drum.

I thought about that but just wanted to ride the bike so bad I put that thought aside, How much would that intail, new wheel, cables and handle bar controls? Am I missing anything?

Bike looks great! Looked through all of your pics. The rear sets turned out awesome! Love how the brake side isnt even noticeable. Looks stock. That took some great ingenuity.

It is easy and I run drum brakes on most of my Honda builds. Most drum Honda drum brakes (CB350, Cl360, CB450 etc) and axles will fit your forks, shorten a brake cable and buy a Amal style or Honda drum brake lever. No machining or fabrication needed.

CB400f with drum brake. Kitty approved.

Bike looks awesome! I'm with you, after a while you get tired of thinking about changing stuff and just want to ride. you can always go back later and do other stuff if you want to.

thanks guy's, and thank you swan bike looks great love the mirror and the cat. I may look into the swap to drum but it will be a winter prodject, after rebuilding clutch. thanks again.

Just wanted to post a update, I have over 4500 miles on this bike now with no problems I did change the rear sets on the brake side to put them above the exhaust, see pic. This bike was in the September/August addition of Café Racer magazine in the budget builds section, very stoked about that. Started a second cb450 build can be seen here. http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12192 I don’t have time to duplicate the project pages. I have seen a lot of great builds here. keep up the good work.
