'74 CB200 My Old Flame

Added bonus: by using the CM400 controls I don't have to figure out how to run the wires outside of the housing so they can run outside bars instead of inside the way the CB200 controls do.

Respoking the wheel was a pain, but the results are worth every minute.

Let's see... where to begin? Both wheels are done. Tires are mounted. Engine painted and just about everything back in the frame. I cut the fenders and they've been painted. Actually, just about everything is done except for the tank, hooking up the exhaust and wiring the controls.

I decided time and $$$ are making this a two step process. I'm going to wait on rearsets until later. For now I'll reuse the old seat. It's in great shape so that's not too bad. Same goes for podfilters. With the original seat it looks funky without the side covers. And if I'm going to use those I might as well reuse the original air filter boxes for now too. I'm gonna use the pontoon megaphone mufflers until I can afford a suitable replacement as well.

But, it doesn't look too bad.

Sorry I haven't been updating with progress. To be honest it's been such nice riding weather now I've been busy working on the bike wanting to get it up and on the road! I had problems with the petcock not sealing fully and the float valves not working right. It kept flooding when I tried to adjust the idle, running super rich, and I ended up with gas in my freshly changed oil. ARRGG!!! :(

I replaced the petcock seal and bought a pair of Keyster rebuilt kits and now it runs like a dream! I forgot how much fun it always was. I'm already getting compliments from people who see it and a few were actually drooling a bit. ;D

I also swiped a couple of paint markers from work and the color is almost a perfect match for the yellow. FREE touch up paint for me!! Woohoo!! Ended up using them to paint the side badges. The tank I'm going to leave as is this season and probably have it professionally painted in the fall. I also bought a cheap tail light bracket and turn signals off ebay. Not the best, but they look good imho. I might upgrade those as well along with some shorty mufflers, even though the originals look pretty good cleaned up and painted flat black... they are still just too honkin huge for my taste. Yeah, it was the 70's style, but just because they wore bellbottoms in the day doesn't mean my bike needs them now.

For now though, I'm just excited to have it running and looking forward to tooling around on it as much as I can.

Aaaaand of course a month after I get it done some old biddy pulls out in front of me in a parking lot because she apparently didn't see the BRIGHT YELLOW motorcycle coming her way. I wasn't going fast (as you can see my the amount of actual collision damage) but then she decides to PULL FORWARD with my wheel stuck in her wheel well. I'm screaming bloody murder to get her to stop while she's twisting the front of the bike (and ME) around with it. Now my front wheel is out of true, some of the spokes are bent, the paint is all scuffed up and I have a nice 2nd degree burn on my leg from the exhaust.

And on top of it all, her insurance is playing the "well, she said you hit her" bullshit game. Fucking wonderful, isn't it?

Sorry to hear that brother. My wife sells insurance and tells me that law states that anyone involved in a collision that is pulling out of a parking spot is responsible if the other party involved was already moving through a thoroughfare, i.e. the driving lane through a parking lot. Since you had the right away and were already travelling in the parking lots driving lane, she is liable due to her negligence to yield and her negligence in merging into the parking lots driving lane from her parking spot. I hope you win that one bro.

Apparently not in Michigan. Hell, the cops didn't even want to get involved because it was a parking lot and that is private property. I wonder if that means I can blow through the stop signs in the mall parking lot if no one is coming and then pull the "this is private property" line if the cops try to give me a ticket?

The good news is her insurance will pay my medical bills (I burnt my leg on the exhaust while she was trying to pull forward with my front tire stuck in her wheelwell), but won't pay anything to have my bike fixed. According to the law she is "immune" simply because I was on a motorcycle.

http://www.michiganautolaw.com/auto-lawyers-blog/2013/06/08/who-pays-for-motorcycle-damage-after-a-michigan-motorcycle-car-accident/

“When a motorcycle is damaged in an accident with a car, and it wasn’t my fault, who pays the repair costs for fixing the motorcycle?”

“Unfortunately, the options are not many. The first and most likely option is the insurance company who wrote the coverage for the motorcycle, assuming that the policy includes collision coverage.

However, that is not always the case. Michigan law does not require motorcyclists to purchase collision coverage, just as it does not require car owners to purchase collision coverage either.

Beyond a motorcyclist’s collision coverage, there’s not much else.

The Michigan Mini Tort is not available because the Mini Tort only covers “motor vehicles” and, under the No Fault Law, motorcycles do not come within the definition of a “motor vehicle.”

The property protection insurance provision of the at-fault motorist’s policy would only provide coverage if the motorcycle was parked at the time of the collision, because PPI only covers “property.”

Michigan is a no fault state - the "motor vehicle" portion only applies to tort (and don't get me started on the catastrophic claims stuff...)

As for the private property stuff in this case it wouldn't make a difference as far as coverage. If you get rear ended on the road it's still your dime. If you live in a no fault state it's part of the game.

Thats garbage.. sorry brother... just haymaker the old bags dentures out, might propel the coping process ;P
