Been Around the Block
Hey guys, started to rebuild my brake master cylinder last night and it ended before it even started... The piston is stuck.. it does not have any give in it so I can push it in.. How do I get it out, or should I just get a new one??

Cheers,
Kevin

When you say "new" do you mean new or 'another'? If you pick up another second-hand unit, you'll want to rebuild that anyway, just for peace of mind. If you mean 'new', then you have nothing else to worry about ;)

Your unit may be beyond repair, but you won't know until you can dismantle it. Replace it with a refurbished unit, then repair it if you can in your own time, then you'll have a spare ;-)

That's what I'd do.

cheers

If the piston is stuck, you can try to disassable the kit. There is a small ring beneath the rubber, you will have to get that out. If that is out the compleet kit wil get out.

I would put a rebuild kit in ! Cost you about 15 dollars, but its your brake!

I did it with mine to, but it sucks to get that small ring out. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I ended up having to get a new (used) master cylinder, because the retaining clip for the piston snapped in half because one half of the retaining pin was fused in place...

Got a rebuild kit that I will put into the new working MC...

If you have a way, try light amounts of compressed air. Be sure to make sure you have something to stop it when it is pushed out. Did I mention light amount of air and something to keep it from flying out and hitting your car, pet or significant other? ;)

put the caliper back together, fold a town between the pistions and hit it with compressed air from where your brake line will feed in, then once from where your bleeder screw is, will pop that sucker right out!
