74 CB750 Cafe rat Racer, A roadworthy work in progress...

sometimes you gotta cross the line, to find it
Whats up everyone, My project started with a 74 cb750 that i found on craigslist, didnt run, had compression, everything was there, needed lots of work... but clean title for $500. Got it home and my Dad got it to fire off starting fluid only, which was enough for me to start choppin it up last winter...

This past march i was surfing the greater cleveland craigslists like i allways do to kill time on rainy days and found a 75 cb750, Runs, no keys no title, asking $300. Sounded a little fishy to me, i figured it was stollen or something. So after contacting the guy and setting up a time to go check it out, Me and my buddy went down to columbus to check it out. we ended up in a nice country setting, the dude had a really nice house, Mid 30's, still wearing his slacks, shinny shoes and a tie still on from work. Blew my mind lol. But after explained what happend to the keys and title, and checking out his dirt bike collection and some vintage bikes i knew this guy was legit. He kick started it still in shinny shoes first kick, and since the bike was in way better conditon then mine and had all the parts i needed to finish my project i bought without hesitation for $280.
I ended up selling the stock HM exhaust for on ebay for my buy it now asking price of $400 +$100 for shipping in less then 12 hours lol, so i made $120 profit and had a whole extra bike for parts and ended up useing the engine, carbs, forks, swing arm, front brakes, front and rear tires and rims, and whatever was the better of the two parts to make one bike. and i plan on bench building the spare engine while i still ride this summer.

I made the seat pan and rear tail section from scratch, did all the work on the tank cutting it and welding it back up, Im useing the spare tank from the parts bike while i work on my main tank. I frenched in the tail light that i bought from federated auto parts for $5.50. i did have to switch out the houseing and bulb to convert it to a two filament set up. Made custom duel exhaust from acouple differnt exhausts that were spare parts that i plan on wrapping with header wrap soon.

Some other little things ive made that i could have easily bought are: used two old box wrenches and made a clutch and brake levers from scratch. Used a piston rod from a CRX, heated it and bent it, welded two vintage wrenches on it and made a liescene plate holder. Took some pipe that fit the forks and some vintage wrenches and made head light holders. All parts turned out better then i expected, and Yeah i know i didnt save a fortune, but i can point to it and say that i made it... which not many harley and crotch rocket guys can say...
