74 Suzuki TC185 rebuild w/mods

I picked up this old TC185 running with only 3500 miles on the clock. Cheap. Its not without problems through. Sitting in a shed for this long has been hard on it. Carb needs good through, needs a clutch, tank is beat up, tires are rock hard, etc, all the normal stuff.
So, its getting tore all the way down, getting a few tracker style mods, and back to new.

Thats a nice looking bike to start with, and ,yes, it's a very simple bike. I've built a few bikes and this thing will def. be the easiest. I'm going to build my own seat and rear fender. I may build a front fender or leave it off, not sure yet. Different bars. I got some bigger tires. I'm kind of just doing what feels right at the time, and trying to match the picture in my head.

Do you already have a different handlebar in mind? Changing out the bars is something what I want to do but the stock ones are 3/4" and I haven't been able to find anything in that same size. I've found some 27mm (I think that's the size of my forks, can’t remember offhand) clipons that I could run but I don't really want to go down that route.

I was thinking lower bars, 3-4in rise. No middle support and prob black. Mine has 7/8 bars and there are tons of options.
I got the rear wheel put on tonight. I love the tire. I think it looks tough.
Also got the clutch put back together. In cleaning up the engine I decided to do a brushed look on the side covers. And I sample of my self lubricant.:))

I want to go with the same thing; low rise (3-4") bars. I might have to shave some metal off the clamps to get some bigger bars in there.
Did you just use a wire brush on the side covers?

No, I started with aircraft stripper. Than used different grits of sand paper and kind of formed the grain myself.

Bjmtz, do you know how much fork oil these hold?

This is something I need to know the answer of as well. Are your forks 27mm? If they are from what I've found out about my bike it takes about 125cc of oil. Converts to just a bit over 4 oz. Don't know for sure though.

Got the engine mounted and rear fender mounted. It's part of an old cb750 front fender and a simple bracket I made from a piece of strap.

I've got a pretty good update here. I got the tank back and got it wrapped. Metallic blue is the shit!!! Side cover done too. Redid the foam for seat.

Thanks for noticing the CBR! It's vinyl wrapped too.
