Alright i'm starting with a very "clean" 74 yamaha TX500. Took her for my first ride this sunday and after 6 years of sitting, she ran ok. just ordered my clubman bars on saturday so i'm waiting for them to get here. This is my first forum and i'm not very computer friendly so i'm having a hard time posting pics.

Alright broke down and purchased rebuild kits for my f'up carbs. Got my new bars on and wow do they look amazing. still having a hard time with what i want the bike to look like, oh well mabe i should just worry about riding it

Hmmm I found one of these local for pretty cheap and am thinking about making it a tracker project...theyre pretty sick.

I love mine so far, I had my heart set on a cb750 as a cafe project but once i saw this one i fell in love.

Yeah Im mainly a Kawasaki guy, but the Tx500s sure look the part to me.

Hey, Im building a TX500 currently... I got it as a complete basketcase... I dont have any shocks and need to know how long the stock ones were so I can find some that will fit.

sharrk i tried to contact you though 1/2 fast... but you sent me a message as a guest... the stock shocks that i had where horrible! so i used a set of stock shocks off a Virago 250 they work great and track awesome in the turns!

OOH YA! before you get into anything check the heads! they are known to over heat and crack i have seen 5 of these bikes ever in my life and 3 of the 5 had cracks in them... dont want to see ya put a ton of work in and find out the motor is FKD

Yeah I dont know what deal is with half fast, I have had to register 3 times now... I have some shocks that look like the Monza Cafe shocks on MikesXS,

, and I am trying to figure out the stock length versus these (12.5 in) and trying to figure out if and how much longer these are than stock.

I would assume that 12.5 is the stock size that is the most typical shock size that came from yamaha at the time (and still now)
if they fit on the pegs they will work... you can also pull out the busings and replace them to make them work on your application

Alright slowly tearing the bike down and fixing little odds and ends. Can someone help a computer retard with posting pics of my bike? Everytime it tells me file too large.....

Hey, welcome here. Joe has one of the best looking TX500 and I'm sure he can guide you with a lot of the steps to take and avoid. To post photos quick and easy, sign up to photobucket.com. it's free, and idiot proof. Once you load your photos on there, they will each get a img code that you can just copy and paste it on here and they will show.

Photobucket .com. Hope you find it easy.

Awesome! Another of the TX/XS500 on here. This makes 4 of us. Very cool.

I'm in deep with mine at the moment. Just mailed my wheels off today to get them fixed up and rebuilt.

Keep posting pictures of the bike and let us know how it runs. I know Joe's had problems and mine was a total PIG before I tore it apart.

Good luck.

Yeah this one sat in a garage for the last 6 years, the left carb was filled with a wasp's nest and the petcocks were plugged shut. In short i cleaned everything out "tuned" the carbs and got it running. So far the carbs are half way rebuilt and i'm tearing the bike down a little to freshen up it's paint

hello hello... what did you do to tune the carbs? i had hell wiht those carbs, went up and down over 20 jet set ups... could not get it to run right... now i gave up and got some VM30 carbs for it... it would run but not all out, if that makes since... i wanted it to rip... anyway great scoot man, lots of torque for a 500!

here is mine

Was just going to comment, and now I have to go to a meeting. It's your fault. Welcome to the site anyways. Cool bike.

Off to hell.
