75 CB360 Project

Well.... Guess it's time to start my build thread and shtuff. I purchased my CB about 2 weeks ago and jumped in head first. This is definitely a different project for me. I just recently moved down to San Diego (in the Navy), and needed something to keep me busy. I have always loved the Cafe style but never found the right project bike. I recently found a couple of CB360's for sale and decided to have fun. So far I have swapped motors, ground down and painted the frame, cleaned the tank (holy shit filthy) and bought all kinds of parts. I will post picks up this weekend of how the bikes looks right now. I have one question, where can I find a block off plate for the starter? I don't need it or want it. I chose "Dougie" for the name because my father passed away recently and I wanted to dedicate this to him.

Re: 75 CB360 "Dougie"

Here is a current pic of the bike. I bought a set of Roccity Clipons, I do not plan on doing anything with the tank cause I love it, I used a license plate from a 52 Chevy to mount my electronics, getting the new Avon tires this weekend, rebuilding the carbs, and waiting on quite a few parts from DCC to get the bike close to completion this weekend.

I don't name my bikes and I kind of cringe when I hear people name theirs, but seeing as you are dedicating your build to your dad, I think that's pretty cool ;)

And has that tank been re-sprayed? It looks amazing in the pic :p

Re: 75 CB360 "Dougie"

Agree with you on the naming thing. The tank is still 1975 paint and I thought it looked awesome when I got it. There is a few small dings and scratches but it still looks great.

Re: 75 CB360 "Dougie"

yeah that tank looks real nice in the pic. man, these lil hondas are popular. good luck with the build. you have a pretty good base to start from

Welcome to DTT
Looking forward to the finished product!

Re: 75 CB360 "Dougie"

Got a little work done today. Always amazes me when I get one thing done, I have to modify something else to make it work. Got the carbs rebuilt, put on and the air filters, and found out my battery tray doesnt fit. Guess i really didn't look at that too closely. Also got both tires mounted, and mounted my rearsets. Currently waiting for the exhaust and front controls and a few others. This thing keeps me busy.

I bought some CL350 exhaust but it doesn't fit right. It seems the clamps are too big. Am I doing something wrong?

Also... Where you have that plate and youre electronics mounted may cause come clearance issues. See how close your tire is with the shocks at full extension? They will compress a good bit when you sit on it, not to mention when youre riding.

Bikes looking pretty nice otherwise man! Keep it up.

So far it seems the plate will clear. I hope. I got the exhaust because I've seen several 360's with the 350 exhaust on them.

They made a CL360 as well. Thats the exhaust you saw. Looks the same, but is made to fit the 360. They made both the 350 and 360 as CB (standard, w/ low pipes) and CL (dual sport, sort of, w/ high pipes) models.
The heads on the 360 are different than on a 350. Headers dont fit... You should be able to unload those pipes for enough to find 360 units though.

As far as the plate, set the bike down, put your full weight on it, than have someone else sit on it with you. If its touching or nearly touching than, itll rub while riding.

Holy cow, what is your rear wheel/tire setup? I've never seen tires that fat on a 360 before. Looks great, definitely bookmarking this.

The tire is a Avon Venom and is stock size. I think the pics just make it look huge. (gotta love that) Also checked the clearance of the plate this weekend, and with me sitting on it and jumping up and down I still had about 1" of clearance. Should be just fine. Waiting on the UPS/Fedex fellas to show up so I can finish this thing. I want to go riding damn it!!

That's not a stock rear rim. 16" ?? If so, it's what we used to call a "Hog Rim". A lot of CB750 and Z1 guys used to put them on in the swingin' 70's. Fashionable, but not very practical (have a look at Carpy's bikes - half of them have the same rim).

My brother put one on his Z900 in 76.....he ditched it for an 18" Dymag after a couple of wobbly runs through the twisties ::)

I stand corrected. I just replaced the tires and the shop didn't say anything about the original rear wheel being 18" vice the 16" that I have. Once she is road worthy, I will have to see how she handles.
