75 CB500T....just starting out

Everyone, here are some pics of my 75CB500T. It was in pretty good shape before I dismantled it. The first few pics are before the tear-down, and the rest are post deconstruction. This is my first cafe build and I'm, honestly, scared sh*tless that I'll screw this up...The engine has 12K original miles and seems to be in good order. I just bought a Newtronics Electronic Optical Ignition for it, amongst many other replacement cables and such.

The first order of business seems to be the frame. I just received the tail...looks like I'll be shaving off the original seat mounting brackets, center stand, and other small things before I can fab the hoop to match the fiberglass tail section. Please give me some input.

Re: 75 CB500T....worried sick.

I'm in the same boat, I've wanted to do a complete tear down in the past but i'm not sure if I'd be able to put it all back together :-\

Re: 75 CB500T....worried sick.

You can do it, its really not that bad.
It took me about a week to get my 350 torn down to bare frame and stripped.
I put the whole thing back together in under a day.
Its way easier to put back together as you know what you're doing!

Good luck

Re: 75 CB500T....worried sick.

I would say now is the best time to do a complete tare down. If you are worried that you will not be able to put it back together then get out a pen and paper and the manuel and start making a log of what goes where ect.. hardest part will most likely be the wiring... good luck, you got this! 8)

You can do it.....You can do it all night...wait...

Its pretty scary on your first run. But honestly once you tear into the meat you start finding out what works and what doesn't things get a whole lot less scary. With youtube & forums and tech guides there's probably a resource for everything you want to do. In the end mistakes are what make it yours!

Re: 75 CB500T....worried sick.

as you do on alot of forums..
first year u read a couple posts and think u know everything. and give advice.
2nd year u know, u know u know everything and stand back and laugh at the idiots.
from then on.. u realize who cares what u know.. and u start to make comments at the fools that they are total boners.

really.. ur gonna have multiple post cheerleading this guy that "you can do it?"

BONERS!

from here on out.. its all cookie cutter anyways.. why bother..
its to the point that people are buying "caff" bikes to make them "cafe racers"

Well...that gets things off to a good start. If you read my intro in the new member area, you'd have seen that I'm new to this forum but not new to motorcycle forums in the least, so I can feel your pain. Maybe I shouldn't have said I'm scared shitless, but...once you get to this point, you kinda hope you can get it all back together. This isn't my first bike build, just the first I've tried to cafe. I'll get started and see how it goes from there.

Take pics as you go. As far as ditching the center stand, if you're doingit simply for weight loss, I would reconsider. Ditch the sidestand instead. Centerstands come in real handy

I second this Keep the center stand but at home for work purposes . then when you need to work on the bike you can just pop it back on. but for sure keep the sidestand for when you park it for non work purposes.
