'75 CB550K1 Gulf - Round...3, the fun stuff

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Nice work matching the lines of the tank with the seat, very well done.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Absolutely amazing design, craftsmanship, and execution! That is without a doubt one of the best seat/tank combos ever done! Best of all though is you are the only person that will have one, and you crafted it all yourself! I am truly in awe of this! Ringo, you have created something stunning and I hope I get to see it in person some day. Now you have to work double time so we can all see this thing finished and painted!

Great job man! Keep it up!

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Thanks guys, really appreciate the kind words. There's still so much work left to do, so don't get your hopes up just yet!

Went for an awesome ride with t71ford today instead of working on the build. Totally worth it; it's been a long winter and it felt so damn great to twist that throttle.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Ill tell ya what man. I just went back over your build thus far and have to say thanks. It seems like many here at DTT, myself included, have gotten a bit complacent in our ideas of what a custom bike is. Guys like you, Crescent, Troy, and a handful of others are keeping the spirit alive and well though. I can certainly say that this, and a few other builds make me want to really step it up in the future.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Well that's probably the best compliment a guy could get, Mike. Thanks man. And you know, the only reason I've taken this build to such ridiculous levels is because of you guys. I don't know what this build would look like without DTT, or if there would even be one!

mothgils, the fork lowers are exactly 12.5" to the axle center.

right on man...thanks!! That is what my stockers are and I bought a replacement one but it is 14". I need to find another left side 12.5". Have any spares??

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

No 550s, but I've got a set of 650 lowers...

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Truly amazing work. Thanks for taking the time/effort to post all of the details for everyone to benefit. Good luck with the rest of the build, hope it all comes together as nicely as the tank/seat have.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Sweet malevolent mother of mayhem, hands down the baddest seat/tank combo around. If this bike was all that came of our little virtual social club, then DTT would have served it's purpose. Absolutely off the charts insane.

Somebody start a slow meaningful clap, like in the movies, so Ringo can take a bow.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

That does look really good. I like the flow of the tank/seat relationship..you got your fung and your schway to shwiiiing in harmony my man! That is going to be a beautiful bike. VZ

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Slow clap.....damn you Crescent. ha ha ha.

But thanks guys, you're making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-*

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Haha, yeah I have the bad habit of ordering parts when I need them, not before I need them. So we're at a standstill again.

AND, I've got an ad in the Buying section, but if anybody sees this here, I need a fork seal circlip (both if possible), cb500/550, 48mm. Or just any 48mm circlip should work.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Check the local auto parts store. They may/should have some. If not theres a seller on EBay that sells them for $10 for 10.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

I'll definitely hit up the local stores; didn't think about them....scoured ebay last night, found a bunch, but no 48mm ones. Or at least no reasonably priced ones...

McMaster.com

Part Number: 98455A141

$12 for a pack of 5.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - finished glassing the seat

Nothing news-worthy. The caswell liner is cured, so I'll be filling the tank today. And the seat is getting a little body filler. But, really I'm too hung over to want to do much today, so we'll see if anything actually happens.

Here's where we're at today. Getting there..
