Thanks guys, the tank and seat are getting an orange stripe tonight, then when Lou's stencils get here a little airbrush magic will happen and finally clear.

I’m sorry that blue back some memories hahaa.

I actually had a old 71 914 project car I restored a few years back, almost that some color..

Can't really add much to what has already been said ...Looks super, but I knew it would! Get the last few odds and ends done, and it will be tight! :D Can't wait to burn up Bozeman with you on that thing!

Looks like you got along with the base coat just fine...

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - I don't know...this blue makes me want to do unnatural things

Brother Ringo the paint, as well as everything you have done, looks awesome! Putting the number three on there for your Mom is a beautiful thing, you have heart, I admire that.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - I don't know...this blue makes me want to do unnatural things

Looks great, Ringo. Congrats on getting her this far. It must feel plain fucking awesome!

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - I don't know...this blue makes me want to do unnatural things

Thanks guys, yeah it's really starting to come together. Y'all are going to give me a big head though. Someone tell me it looks like shit!

Anyways, the correct size fork seals arrived, so I was able to put the front end together. Some of you may remember that I made up some spacers to go under the damping rod, to shorten the forks. Those got axed because they took too much travel away. So there was still the problem of the longer cb650 fork tubes, and springs that were just long enough, but not long enough to have some preload with the caps on. Well, to fix the spring issue, what better way to add some preload than cartridge emulators! So those went in, at a slightly stiffer setting than street...hopefully I won't have to pull them to tune...but I doubt that.

And to disguise the longer fork tubes, Durgam_K is making me a billet top triple clamp. The stock tree has the fork clamps on a lower plane than the stem clamp. Kris is making me one with all three holes on the same plane, similar to a modern sport bike top tree. It'll add about 3/4" to the required length of the tubes...which is basically how much longer the 650 tubes are. So hopefully I won't have to have the tubes sticking up through the clamp.

Oh, and last night's painting of the stripe went horribly wrong. Long story short, my shop was too cold...and I got runs galore. Taking care of that today...

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - I don't know...this blue makes me want to do unnatural things

sucks when yo have the runs ;D Hopefully all works out ok without haveing to respray the base colour. Good idea on the top triple.

Cheers

Ask and you shall receive!

Per Tyler's recommendations, I did a little razorblading, sanding and remasking of the first stripe, being careful not to hit the blue. The second attempt went way better. Cranked the shop up to 80-85 degrees and it cured before it could even think about running. The colors look a little off in this pic, at least to me. Especially the orange. But it's the same as the frame.
