Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - I don't know...this blue makes me want to do unnatural things
Thanks guys, yeah it's really starting to come together. Y'all are going to give me a big head though. Someone tell me it looks like shit!
Anyways, the correct size fork seals arrived, so I was able to put the front end together. Some of you may remember that I made up some spacers to go under the damping rod, to shorten the forks. Those got axed because they took too much travel away. So there was still the problem of the longer cb650 fork tubes, and springs that were just long enough, but not long enough to have some preload with the caps on. Well, to fix the spring issue, what better way to add some preload than cartridge emulators! So those went in, at a slightly stiffer setting than street...hopefully I won't have to pull them to tune...but I doubt that.
And to disguise the longer fork tubes, Durgam_K is making me a billet top triple clamp. The stock tree has the fork clamps on a lower plane than the stem clamp. Kris is making me one with all three holes on the same plane, similar to a modern sport bike top tree. It'll add about 3/4" to the required length of the tubes...which is basically how much longer the 650 tubes are. So hopefully I won't have to have the tubes sticking up through the clamp.
Oh, and last night's painting of the stripe went horribly wrong. Long story short, my shop was too cold...and I got runs galore. Taking care of that today...
