'75 CB550K1 Gulf - Round...3, the fun stuff

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

Most definitely, Rich. And I'm a wee bit nervous too. I've got all of four days to get it running right, if it isn't.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

+1 on what Big Rich said. Four days is a piece o cake............Good Luck, can't wait to see that vid

Brother I love that woodstove! I have a few of them here.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

Yeah Joey, that wood stove is a life saver up here!

Just a couple pics of the tail light and added LEDs.

You're killing me Ringo, we ALL want to see this thing done! So amazing. It looks like its exceeding the ton just sitting there.

Well then I have good news for you! I'm running into town in a couple minutes to pick up the completed wheels. Pics this evening, so you can sleep soundly!

Nice Ringo, the extra LED under the tail is cool. If it brakes well you want people to have half a chance to see the lights. Love this bike. One of these days I am going to be able to build something with this much of myself in it.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

Oh, but wait! There's moderately bad news coming............ :'(

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

Yeah, just got back from the tire place. They popped the rear tube while I was waiting. Which, if they HAD to pop one, that's the best. With the front on at least I can fill and bleed the front brake tonight. I'll be picking up the rear tomorrow morning.

Maritime, thanks man. It maybe has a little TOO much of me in it for the time frame I gave myself to finish. A year+ for this build would have kept me a lot more sane than doing all this in five months.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

ok, that isn't too bad. When I got my Avons on the 450 they mounted the front backwards so I had to go back and get it swapped. I just want to build a bike with no comprimises. My half cafe is also a commuter and a daycare transport. The GL has to stay 2-up for the wife to ride with me. I really want to build a bike to be creative and make it mine. It sucks you only had 5 months, but you pulled one hell of a bike out in that time. You can do round 2 next winter. From the look of the wood stove, you have winters similar to here. I hope in about 2 years to have the space, and funds to get a project to build that is just going to be an expression of me. until then I get to enjoy yours, Troys, Vons, Richs, etc. Thank god for this site to get my fix.

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

Well thanks man. Yeah, you're time is coming. I'm only able to go hog wild right now because I'm single and childless. And part of me hopes that doesn't change anytime soon!

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

Ha, I get you. I am happily married and wouldn't give up being a dad for all the motorcycles in China. But I wish I found bikes when I was still single, but then again I might be dead now as my wife and son keep me from going too nuts on the speed end of things. I am happy to ride what got and will wait for the time when I can have a project like yours. Won't be long, until then I got 2 dirt bikes I am getting ready for the summer, one for me, one for the little guy. So when do we see pics of the front tire mounted????

Cheers.

Mike

Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - stoked to be spoked

I suppose I could post up a pic of the front.

It's cool that you're getting your son into riding at an early age; I wish my dad did that, and I intend to do as you're doing some day. Hope I didn't come across as anti-offspring, I'm just nowhere near ready!
