'77-'78 cb750 carbs on a '79 cb750? Fitment issues...? Compatibility?

I've been researching putting pods on my 750. Apparently the '79 -'82 750's have CV carbs which require a vacuum. Is it too simple too just mount the carbs from an earlier model? Say '77-'78 cb750 carbs on my '79? From what I've read the only issue lies within the carbs themselves. The '79-'82's were very reliant on a specific style of airbox that created some sort of vacuum fed action.
