77 CB550 Regulator/Rectifier Question

Just wanted to start off and say that I am new to this thread. I picked up a 77 cb550k that I am currently building into a brat style bike. With this being said, I am going after the clean look with intentions of clearing out everything behind the side covers and into a battery/electrical tray. On these bikes, they came from the factory with a regulator seperate from the rectifier. I'd like to switch over to a solid state rec. to minimize the things in the tray. I understand that there are new aftermarket solid state recs. (aka rick's). I was at a swap meet the other day and managed to pick up a box of solid state rectifiers, starter solenoids, a bunch of wiring/fuses, etc. for only 2 bucks! I was wondering if there is any way of seeing if these will work. One of them seems to have the same amount of wires that lead into them. Is there anyway of knowing if they will work? I don't know much about them, do these have different amount of volts/amps or anything that I should know about?

Might work, might not.

Worst case scenario is that you cook one of the R/Rs, but that's unlikely.

Do you have a pic of the one you want to try?

The wires on the unit you want to try: Are the colors three yellow, two green, and two red?

I think one of them has this combination. Do you know if all of the manufacturers use the same color coordination in these older bikes? If so, could I just cut the female/male connectors off and solder a rectifier with the same color combo that matches up to my harness? I appreciate all of your help!

Not all the color combinations are the same, no. Many differ by manufacturer, but sometimes change depending on the OEM part supplier.

You're going to want one with three yellows (or three whites) and then the other four wires should all be different colors (something like red, green, white, and black or red, black, green, and brown).

Gotcha, Ill check once I get home. Will trying each out harm my bike in any way? As in will it fry anything or maybe even cost me more in replacing other parts? Lots of questions... I know. : ???

For the most part, they just won't work. But that's assuming you hook them up "correctly". If you mix up the AC and DC wires, you might not be happy with the results.
