Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Seat and Tank in progress

Oh yeah... here's a couple of pics of the engine all mounted up...

looking spectacular, love the engine, one of the best ive seen

but i have to say, i think this build demands clip ons!! those club-mans just dont match the rest of the quality you have going on there!

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Seat and Tank in progress

We'll see... This is my first build and I blew all the budget on the engine. I'm having to skip rearsets as well, for now. I'll probably upgrade to clipons at a later date but now that I have the finish line in sight, it's all systems go!

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Engine Mounted... Now Wiring... ugh...

Well... I took apart my engine (again) this last weekend. After doing a bit more reading, I realized the 5-part rings I received were not, in fact, three rings with two extras. *sigh* The engine is now reassembled (again, again, and again) and sitting in the bike (again). Compression is feeling STRONG now. Turning the engine over with a 14mm wrench is a bit of a chore (I already checked for valve-to-piston contact and I'm good to go).

Wiring is now in progress...

Front controls mounted. I stuck the headlight and tank on for the purposes of the pic so I could see how things were looking. These clubman bars are making it a bit difficult to decide what to do about the cables (clutch cable especially). They're way too long now and kind of getting in the way. Are there some shorter replacements? What do you guys usually go with?

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Engine Mounted... Now Wiring... ugh...

Yup those clubmans are XXXL! Looks like junior clubmans would be tighter.
You could chop up some old bars and weld up a smaller set, or chop up an old triple tree and weld up some clip-ons.
It's all either $ or welding!

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Engine Mounted... Now Wiring... ugh...

I run clutch cable across left fork leg, behind right fork leg and down right side of frame then cross back over top of carbs
Run throttle cable down left side
You won't need shorter cables and the 'sweep' makes nice smooth operation
I would re-drill bars and move switches further inboard then cut excess off ends
Rear-sets and clip-on's are a lot more comfortable than stock footrests and ace bars

Thanks, pj!
Am I OK with just letting the front brake cable flop around?

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Engine Mounted... Now Wiring... ugh...

Run it over headlight if possible and loosely zip tie to fork leg above fender mounts

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Engine Mounted... Now Wiring... ugh...

No new photos, but I finally stopped procrastinating and got my wiring to the 90% mark. LED turn signals and headlight are all working fine along with neutral light and brake lights. I haven't yet tested the ignition system, but I'm getting there. I still need to add a secondary kill switch (this one will kill the power coming from R/R before it passes to the cap) and wire up the indicator light. I'll be stopping by the parts store on the way home from work for the necessary goodies.

My front brake switch tested bad through my multimeter though. Anyone have a spare?
