'77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Calling it Done (for now...)

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

If a CB brace will work I have spare fender that someone did a shitty job taking apart, can have for shipping if you can't find anything.

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Thanks, man. Can you send me a pic so I can compare it to the forks?

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

That looks about right to me. Any idea on shipping costs?

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

You want the whole thing or just the brace? I'm guessing what ever flat rate box it fits in, unless UPS will do it cheaper.

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

I'm still on the fence about running a front fender (cut down, of course). If it's not too much trouble would you be able to get me shipping costs for both so I can decide if it's worth getting the fender shipped? Thanks in advance, man. It's really appreciated.

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Sure no problem I will get right on it when I get back to the house, hopefully before I get a beer or two in me. ;D

I've been keeping an eye out for old fenders... there's a junk yard near me... maybe I'll go take a look.

Hey Sonreir,

Roadhawk on Johnson Creek should have a fender for you. If not I think I might have an extra 360 fender that someone started into with a torch.

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

That reminds me when ever you are ready sir.

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

My tail light finally arrived from China last night. I drilled the tail in order to mount it and then clear coated the tail, tank, gas cap, and upper engine case right below the carbs.

I oversprayed a bit on the tail and got some runs though. Can I just sand these down with 1500 grit or should I try to buff them out with some cutting compound?

Anyway... tonight when I get home from work, I'm gonna try to start this thing up for the first time.

Up and running after a bit of trouble getting it started: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=29502.0

Current issues are a carb boot leak on the left side causing me to run a bit lean. Also, idle is tracking so I suspect I may have a sync issue as well, but I'll sort out the boot leak before I do anything else.

Most worryingly, I have a steady oil leak coming from the clutch rod seal. I suppose a replacement is in order? Anyone have some tips for fixing that issue that doesn't involve cracking the cases?

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Check the clutch pushrod isnt bent or grooved where the seal fits (or it it leaking around the outside?)
Pretty sure it's parallel seal (not 'lipped') so you can pull itout and lide a new one in place
BTW, doncha just lurv it when I'm right ;)

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Definitely!

OK... carb boots have seen better days but hopefully a bit of Threebond 1104 will fix this issue. I'll fire it up again in a couple of hours after it sets. With any luck, I'll get a vid of the beautiful noise this thing is making.

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Did you ever get brake return spring fixed?
I found one of the 4 I have (staring me in the face and laughing ;D )

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Yup. Return spring sorted out. I found one on eBay for $4. I still need to fab up some sort of stop, but I'll get to that later. Thanks though, mate.

OK idle is hunting and RPMs are slow to return to idle... sync issue? I'll work on tuning a bit more tomorrow.

Not sure I understand why cap isn't working, weak stator maybe? Guess I might need to re-evaluate my electrics. Going to pull oil seal around the clutch rod and inspect that as well....

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

You know what, that don't sound half bad, really I don't think mine comes down any faster off a high rev. Aside from the puddle of oil think you're doing alright boss. I can do a vid of mine and post it up if you like. Sounds really good... I know mine makes more cam chain whine noise but other than that, good stuff.

Re: '77 CJ360T (Café SOS) - Just about done (for now)!

Sounds great, man. I've heard carbs that are more out of sync than that, but I agree they're not quite there yet.

The exhaust sounds as good as it looks. I hope the oil leak is easily fixed.

Almost. There.
