Picked up this GS550 a few weeks ago for a fair price. This thread will sort of document my progress as I go through it/clean it up/make it my own.
As I bought it:
Fun to ride, but it's not quite as clean as I would like. The seat desperately needs some padding (I'm an upholsterer, no problem). I have another non-running GS550 I'm using for parts as I go. I threw the extra tank on and zip tied the super moto bars just to get an idea:
Also thinking I'm going to make a box for the electronics/battery under the seat. Not a huge fan of everything just being screwed on the bottom of the seat as it was.
Also been spending some time polishing bits.
So what's the plan? Continue going through and cleaning things up. Re-do the seat, decide on new paint, new taillight, new exhaust....and we'll see. I can't find the pick of a cafe hump on the rear. I mocked one up and it's definitely growing on me.
