Just started this project. Found a CB550 roller and had a 80' CB650 motor laying around. Should be fun.
Forgot to take initial pics but this is where I'm at now. Gotta finish up all the fabrication work then all the parts are off to powder coat. Plan is to keep everything looking clean and simple. Color scheme will be pearl white tank/seat with a deep red stripe. Satin black frame and wheels. Still trying to decide on the engine paint scheme but I've got a few hours of cleaning/degreasing ahead of me so it'll be awhile hah.
Squared off the rear hoop to match the tank (Early 80s Suzuki I think).
Battery was just a hair to big to fit between the frame so I had to move the cross member back an inch or two. Should be just as strong as the original. Finishing up frame mods today!
Better pictures! Finally got the tank where I want it. Just gotta machine some threaded mounts that will mount the back of the tank to the frame. Finishing up the electronics panel tomorrow too.
Machining up some Delrin swing arm bushings today. We use this stuff in our offroad race truck suspension so it should be interesting to see how they work out. I'll probably make a few extra so if anyone is interested in a set let me know.
Got my durgam rearsets back from anodizing. And Almost done mounting the stock 550 hub to the gsxr forks but wanted some input on my set up.
I machined a new straight axle and then made 2 bushings that fit in the forks and pinch down on the smaller diameter axle. I still need to make spacers for the hub but does this look sufficient? The forks are super tight and I don't think the axle is going anywhere but do I need to worry about lateral movement?
Were it me, I'd at least make up some spacers the outer diameter of the inner bearing race to sandwich between the forks and hub. If you get my meaning. It may be overkill, but you can never be too safe.
Yea I actually just made some today. I matched the OD to the raised edge on the forks and then turned them down at the inside where they meet the inner part of the bearing. They'll help keep the hub centered as well.
