Let me just start out by saying i am not the best with electrical but i am getting a better understanding of it. I just got a 1978 cb400tii and I am not getting a spark on either side. I have replaced the coil with one from ebay, the guy said it works. And i still have the same results. Next would be the cdi, but is there a way to test it to see if it works. What is the correct way to go about getting a spark. I have searched it but still cant get a spark. Thanks

Download a clymers manual and use the testing/troubleshooting advice in it. It will step you through the way to test each component and eliminate any problems. There are links on here that will take you to free PDF'S I got mine from here and you can track down what is bad. Sometimes it is just corrosion, so make sure the contacts on the retifier, regulator, starter solinoid, etc. are clean and shiny. You can pull the pins out of the plastic conectors with a small flat screwdriver. Then you can clean them up well. I had all kinds of electric gremlins on my CM400 until I spent the time to clean and fix all the connections.

Cheers,

Have you tested to see if there is power getting to the coil? If there is no spark and you have replaced the coils, get a wiring diagram and start tracing out the power route from the battery to the coils, testing along the way to see where the power is being dropped.

Does the battery have power?

yes i have checked and there is no spark, I also have 12 volts at the battery. do i just use a multimeter in the connecter going to the coil and see if there is 12 volts there?

i took off the cover and i cant get the rotor off, i am going to get a 18mm bolt and try to get it off. I did buy a non runner, the guy said it ran a few months ago just not very good like it needed the carbs cleaned.

I just replaced my stator cause I knew it was bad and a co off ebay. But still no spark. So im ordering a universal coil from ddc and im going to test the regulator and cdi to see if theres a drop.
