78 CB750k build

So here's my bike. I've had it for 2 months now. Been working on it 1-2 days a week, because it's being kept at my friend's house and his wife doesn't really like me.I found the bike on craigslist for $600 with title. It ran a little rough, but it still ran. Here it is, when we picked it up.

This is my buddy Keppy. He's being nice enough to let my build the bike in his garage(basement) and he's helping me do any fab or metal work that I can't do. By being nice, I mean he's busting my balls. He is building an XS650 Street Tracker while I build this.

When it comes to grease, this thing had enough to share.

When we got back to the shop, I stripped off the sissy bar, rear fender, and turn signals.

The next thing I did was replace the rusted ass bars with some clubmans and replaced the busted tach.

I found the tach at Cycle Salvage in Rochester, PA. Walked about 10 feet into the yard and there was a 74 CB750 just laying on it's side with a perfectly good tach.

This bike has definitely seen some miles and was kept outside with no cover.

Stripped down the tach and speedo. Years of sitting in the sun faded the face on the speedo, but since the tach was from a different bike, it looked way better. After trying some vinyl overlays for the faces, which I didn't like at all I went with aluminum faces from Joker machines. Then I added LED strips behind the faces and colored red into the redline and 70mph mark.

The needle is in the correct position now.

The PO put had some ugly and horrible sounding pipes on this thing. They were cut off just under the stock foot pegs and it looks like he welded washers into the ends. I replaced them with a Mac 4 into 1.

Another thing I did was remove the warning lights and bought a new gauge bracket. Then drilled out some holes and installed LED lights for the turn signals, oil pressure, and neutral.

The stock tank on the bike, in my opinion, was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. While walking around the salvage yard where I found the tach, I found this tank just laying around. I think it's off of a CB500. Since it's from a smaller bike, we had to widen the tunnel to make it fit. The right side was done by me and the left done by Kepp. I did a terrible job, but in my defense it was my first time.

More progress since my last update. Moved my bike over to Alchemypgh's shop and he's been helping me out a ton. Here's some pics of the oil tank Jimmy made by modifying a tank for an MT125 Elsinore.

Awesome man, i replaced my tank as well.. it's just too wide... i don't know what they were thinking for the k7 and k8, looks like the back of beetle sitting on your bike. I like what you did with the oil tank, combining the rear finder with it, just brilliant. Mine that i am developing is the same concept but it goes with the frame of the motorcycle. I am liberating it from the machine shop Monday. Did you measure the volume make sure it will fill just right?
