It's been a long time since I've posted but still lurk and build a lot of little 2 strokes. Here's my latest "big bike". It started out as a 78 cm400 and over the last month and a half I've reworked it a smidgen. It's 90% done. I was aiming to have it done for Rice-O-Rama but didn't get the seat back from the upholstery shop yet. Here's a before and almost done shot I have no clue how to resize all my pics.
And here is a few during shots too. I had to knock in the front of the tank to clear those beefy usd forks with the closer steering geometry. I needed a headlight so I used an old honda dream light I had laying around but didn't have a bucket so I made one with left over round stock.
Thanks guys. If I can find another buell front wheel that doesn't cost an arm and a leg I'll machine up a Cush drive and slot it into the rear, but it looks ok with the comstar for now. I don't have any better pics. Of the seat I'll snag some when I get it back this week. It also doubles up as a battery box and license plate bracket too.
Are you doing a full front end swap or just the wheels? If your doing the forks since there aren't any available bearings to make it a simple swap. I can make a custom 1" stem work with Hondas goofy bearing size if need be.
Unfortunately I don't have any good pics. of when I made my my steering stem. It's the piece that goes through the neck of your frame and you bolt the upper triple tree down onto it. I pressed the stem out of the buells lower triple tree, made a new one and pressed it back in. Typically this doesn't need to be done since all balls racing usually have bearing conversion kits but there aren't any needle bearings with the appropriate measurements to go between mm's and inches that I could find.
Ok guys quick up date. Seat is finished and the guys did a great job. If you're near mass don't waste your time with any one but seamless customs in Oxford!
I did end up using stock bearings. It was the easiest way to go and quick for me.
It's alive but I had to order a stiffer rear spring so measurements and calculations in hand it's ordered. I need to make a high pipe 2-1 and modify a skid plate I have to fit while I'm waiting.
In the mean time Im wrapping up a resto. for a customer I think you guys will like. Here's the pics...
Well kids its wrapped up and I've put a few thousands incredibly fun miles on it. It's was a blast and I'm moving onto the next project, she's up for sale if any ones interested. Here's a video my buddy shot with a some crazy go pro helicopter:
