lol... you're right. Sorry, I got my wires crossed. I'm too used to working with the twins. :p

You can jump a couple of wires from the battery to the exposed copper rings on the front of the coil and that should do the trick.

Okay when I get home tonight I will do that could I use the power supply to do the same thing?

Okay did the test of the field and it worked good it held a 10 mm wrench

Sounds like something to do with the R/R, then. If you power the field coil directly (and it's magnetizing) and you have good continuity on the yellows, there's not too much else it could be. :-\

Want me to send you one of my units to try out?

Sounds good.

Please send your address details to info@sparckmoto.com and I'll get one into the mail for you. You can pay after we've figured out whether or not it works.

Okay I got the r/r today is their any tests you would like me to perform before I hook it up?

So the alternator plugs directly to the R/R?

The green, red, and black from the R/R go where?

the green wire is grounded to the battery, the red is 12v hot from the starter solenoid, and black goes to the ignition circut

OK.

A few more checks with the multimeter and then I'm out of ideas. :-\

With the bike turned on, please verify you have around 12V on the black and the red wires.

13.1 out of red wire and 12.64 out black wire with key on

OK...

It shouldn't matter, but can you swap the black wire going to the harness with the black wire going to the alternator?

Oh.. and one other thing... Measure the resistance from the negative terminal of the battery to some bare metal on the frame.

So I added an extra ground from the battery the first was apart of the harness and now at 6k rpm I got about 13.7 volts but that is Max

13.7 is a bit low still, but it's serviceable.

What are you running in the way of electrics? Upgraded headlight or coils?

I have a 79 cb750f and I almost never get 14.4. I have a built in voltmeter in my speedo. I'm running higher coils though. I also have the cyclex charging system so I don't have those issues. Lucas three phase alternator and podtronics r/r. Maybe look into swapping. You'll probably have fewer issues.
