Picked up the bikes in august and dove in right off the bat. One is a parts bike but i really ended up mushing all the best parts together.

Got all the parts and started breaking everything down. i put the best of the two engines into one and had the head rebuilt by a mechanic in my area.

Got everything back together and back in the frame. what a pain! shoulda used the tip in on the side method...

IMG_2049_zps08ab2e02.jpg

The wiring on the other hand... man, let me tell you wiring is not my cup of tea! it is gratifying when its done though. I changed alot of the harness moving different things and changing connections for aftermarket controls gauges etc. also carbs

IMG_2287_zps85c557d4.jpg

had to adjust the rear hoop, also found a deal on ebay for some wire wheels and wrapped the harness.
tank came in and i started mocking everything up. also started polishing everything some of the covers.

IMG_2309_zpsfdd278be.jpg

mocked everything (well most of the stuff anyway) up to see what changes i would have to make to the frame before powder coating

then i took it all apart again.... welded the hoop, took off some tabs bunch of little stuff like that.

here is a time lapse of the entire breakdown and a little more. the camera died partway though

IMG_2393_zps8bfcc76d.jpg

hid the rear brake light switch behind the footpeg mount and put on the refinished front caliper.

IMG_2395_zps2d8962ac.jpg

heres a little clip of me on the way back from the maiden voyage. as of now the bike has moved out to the barn :'( and im hoping to get it all tuned up tomorrow or tuesday. there are still little things to be done here and there but for the most part its finished. sorry for the crappy phone pictures ill try to get some real ones up at some point. probably after im done tuning.

Re: 79 CB70 ltd cafe build

Good call leaving the swingarm black, looks pretty sharp! Were it me, I'd reconsider your rear turn signal placement - but nice work indeed!

Re: 79 CB70 ltd cafe build

Thanks! id agree that the rear turns are kinda odd, there are a few other spots ive been thinking of putting them but havnt got around to fabbing up the brackets yet.

Re: 79 CB70 ltd cafe build

wow wasnt expecting the white but it really makes it pop, all up it looks great, good job!!

Re: 79 CB70 ltd cafe build

thanks! wanted to do something a little off the beaten path with the white

Re: 79 CB70 ltd cafe build

hey guys, so as it turns out the bike is not charging. any suspects or things i should investigate right off the bat?

Re: 79 CB70 ltd cafe build

Open up the stator cover and put a multimeter lead on the inner and outer ring of the rotor. If you get continuity you need a new rotor, it's a failure point on this motor.

Let me know if that's the case, I believe I still have one lying around you can have for shipping cost.

Re: 79 CB70 ltd cafe build

Incredible job! I love seeing how many different shapes the same model bike can take. What carbs are you runnin? I would so dearly love to run pod's on mine ;D

Thanks!

and spalding i dont mind them, i think itd be nice if they were little further forward but when riding its not bad. the only the that really bugs me is when rolling the bike i always bash my calves on them
