Bought my first bike and need to replace the chain and sprocket. Previous owner sent me an excel worksheet of parts needed and recommended the izumi chain(630x90, o-rings). Any reviews on them? also what sprocket should i look into buying?

To all bike owners still living in the 70's: Your 630 chain and sprocket is robbing significant power unneccessarilly.

Do a 520 conversion and thank me later.

The o-ring chain is package #2.

The early 750s were 530 then switched to 630. Possibly later they again used a 530 on some models, I'm not sure.

Edit: Per J-Rod's comment I did some research, I am not a Honda tech specs expert.

Looks like the 530 was used from 69-76, then supposedly switched to 630 for 77-78. However, there are many 79 models out there with the 630 set, I will assume simply because Honda used them until they were out of them but who knows.

Now that I think of it, I owned an 81 and it had a 530.

The conversion is worth every bit of research it takes to get the right sprockets. I would call cycle x and make sure their 520 set is a bolt on for the 79, which I am 99.999% sure it will be.

Some things to consider:

-Stock gearing and tire size.

-Where you ride your bike the most.

-What others with a similar setup have learned works well from trial and error.

-18 tooth will be geared lower than 19 tooth with any given rear sprocket.

-Whether or not you have significantly lightened the weight of your bike. If so, taller gears will likely be the way to go.

-Remember that either way, you can get the proper gearing through rear sprocket changes. If 19 ends up being too tall, you can always get a larger rear sprocket to fine tune the gearing.

-Don't be afraid to call or email Cycle X and ask them. They will likely have a pretty good answer since they seem to specialize in cb750 gearing.

I do however understand that you would like to get as close as possible right off the bat, so take these things into consideration, do some research with other cb750 owners, and make the call.

Maybe j-Rod has a suggestion on gearing since he has done the 520 conversion.

Great, as though my Hondyamasaki hybrid weren't already complicated enough. Now I have to convert to 520. The 630 chain size was the only thing common between my CB750 and the GPZ750 I got the rear end from.

The bike will be used mainly for street as far as gearing goes i might want higher gears and i was going to do a gsxr fork conversion on the bike so it wont be using the stock wheel. I will give cycle x a call when i get the chance to.
