Rode the CX yesterday to a buddy's place to help diagnose a small issue on a bike we are selling. Felt good. Roads are still covered in sand etc so have to just put along. I was going to ride to work this morning but i am sick as a dog and below freezing was a little to cold. May go get the bike at lunch as it is supposed to got to 50 or so.

Well, got the rad mounted, oil in, coolant in. Hit kill switch and turned the engine over a few times to circulate oil and coolant and........fuck coolant starts pissing out. Goddammit. Went to bed, got up cleaned mess then checked coolant. Still lots so wtf?? Turn engine. Piss away. Ok flashlight out look forever till I trace it to one of the pipes. Pull it out and the brand new oring was torn. New one in place and no more leaks. Thank jeebus ;D got some bolts to torque on crash guards/engine mounts then it is outside to fire up! After I figure out why my civic is pissing gas on the ground. I hate cars.

Ok. Fired up, since I spilled coolant all over and couldnt wipe it all up she steamed from everywhere. I ran her down the road in the cold rainy night and she ran really good. I am getting some smoke from the pipes I am going to hope is the oil and crap I had on the valves etc from assembley. Any of you GL guys who have done rhis know how long it will smoke before I have to worry something is wrong? It us not sweet smelling and because it is near freezing out, damp/rain I am thinking it is normal. Hope it is nice out tomorrow so I can ride her a few miles and re-torque heads.

Right on man! I wouldn't be concerned if it smokes for a few miles.

This mean you'll make the Kentucky trip?

CONGRATS! I wouldn't sweat the smoke either unless it persists. Should clear up after a couple engine cycles up to operating temp.. Depending on ambient conditions, these bikes are known to smoke a little on start-up but it's just condensation like any car. Especially on cool damp mornings. But it clears up by the time you push in the choke.

they can smoke for up to 20 mins or until you get a load on them running down the road

Thanks guys. I am going to renew reggie this morning and take ot for a good 1-2 hour ride then bring it in and torque the heads. Rich I hope I get to thaw. Well see my civic decided it wants to urinate gas on the ground randomly so I have to sort that out

Ok. Put about 50 miles on today. All different roads. A good 5 min blast at 100 mph on freeway and she seems to be running great. Never got too hot all smoke and steam stopped. Made sure to stop 2-3 times, shut her off, go in a store get shit ride again. Smoke never came back. I am going to put another 50 on her the let her sit over night and re-torque heads. She idles a little high 14-1500 rpm so I need to adjust but timing seema spot on. No hesitations or anything. Just roll on and hold on. Happy now. Should get through this season now without a hitch. Now to sell a kidney to make the thaw.
