81 cb400t electric start not working

'fraid so.
I'm using a cheapy Harbor freight one, get a timer while your there and have it come on an hour a day if your not using bike (MUCH cheaper than a proper battery tender ;) )

No vehicle owner should be without the glorious $25 Battery Tender Jr. Set it and forget it. I rotate one between several bikes to keep all the batteries strong, but you can leave it on all Winter with no ill effects. It'll even charge a car battery if you give it a couple days.

I bought a Schumacher battery maintainer from Walmart for $20 right after I bought my battery. It came with a quick disconnect cable that I connected to the battery so now all I have to do is plug it in. No more alligator clips. It does come with the alligator clips if you want to use them. Seems to work well.

I have a 78CB400Tso I can relate fairly well...... Its not the clutch, the stand or the paint on the bars. Considering the the age of the bike these switches are very temperamental and you pissed yours off when you changed the bars. Look closely the the button itself and feel when you press it that it is smooth and makes contact. Second take the whole assembly off the bars again and see if anything looks..... funny. Make sure the switch is in the run position and keep trying. More than likely there is a loose connection that you're chasing. Keep wiggling wires and checking continuity until you find it or fix.

Good Luck

Thanks man. I got the starter to work, had a small problem with the bike actually starting after I fixed the elec start. I solved that last night and had her out for a lil spin tonight. On ward and up wards!!
