'81 CB650 Cafe Racer - Help!

Hello everyone - new to this forum; first post.

I recently bought a 1981 CB650 that wasn't running. Had the carbs rebuilt and running fine. Later on, a neighbor backed into my bike in the parking lot and back to the shop to have it repaired. Weeks later i got a call that they dropped another bike on mine and it damaged the whole tank. Long story short I got a new custom paint job basically for free. The order of how I was planning on turning this into a cafe racer obviously took a few unexpected turns. My next step is to switch out the air intake and the hide the battery to clear out the section under the seat.

What suggestions do you guys have for air intake models?? Also what ideas do you have for the battery??

Blimey, you've had some rough luck :(...but the silver lining is you now have a very smart bike ;D

If the carbs are CV style then there's a world of jetting/set up pain if you choose to use pods. I decided against after doing some reading on here and elsewhere, deciding to leave the intake stockish and concentrate on other areas. Other's on here will have something to add I'm sure.

Lovely bike though.

Agree. If its running good, keep it that way. At the very least you'd need to change the main jets, but there'd still be sputtering on decel. That and all the detabbing and welding a battery box would require you to break her down and paint the frame.

If you had less carbs I'd say do it. Lining all four up would be a nightmare w/ pods. Your bike looks awesome. Ride and enjoy.

If its running good now leave it as is and just enjoy the ride !
