Hi guys,
Firstly I'm new to the forum so, hey!
Looks like I'm going to be picking up an 81 cb750 dohc and I'm looking for ideas and suggestions if possible?
Firstly though I'd really like to find out if there are any tanks that are interchangeable as I'm really not a fan of the curved one of the dohc 750. Ideally something from another bike rather than a new item. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!
J

Do you have any welding or fabricating skills? Do you know anyone that does? And I don't mean your buddys uncle who has a $100 buzz box. Real welding and fab capabilities.

Apologies, it's an 'F'

With regards to welding/fabricating skills......Er I guess I'd describe myself as a willing amateur!! To be honest the bikes cheap and I want to improve my skills so I might as well jump in and try stuff, if I screw it up I screw it up.

Is there a possibility of the any of the sohc tanks fitting with a reasonable amount of fab work or is it going to take too much to even bother? If anyone's done any sort of tank conversion for the dohc then I'd be very interested to see it, any sort of tank would be of interest.

Cheers for the replies!

Hey J,

I've searched this topic as I wanted to do the same, but never had any luck.
You can always go for visual effects to change the appearance of the tank. I've seen guys paint the lower inch inline with the frame angle the same colour as the frame to kind of melt it in. Otherwise I've also seen lighter colours inlaid into the side to give the appearance of cutouts. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Otherwise, if you want to practice fab skills, let the grinder guide you!

Welcome!

Matt

Don't change the tank - just build this:

Yesss. Like this. I had an 81 750F for a bit. This is where I would have liked for it to go.. more or less.

I think the f tanks look great, why would you want to change it? What ever you do don't use a fiberglass tank or you will be sorry.

I've used several glass tanks. Never had any issues. As long as they are built with the proper materials, you'll have no issues.

The issues I have with them is That they are easily damaged and if not treated right, ethonol will eat away at the tank from the inside out.

Welcome. Sounds like a good project. Nothing wrong with jumping in and being a willing amatuer but know your limits & use common sense. And for future reference, posts without pictures suck ;D
