us folk at the bottom of the world really miss out on stuff like that (berrymans) and cheap dohc parts!

Back when I did the GL1100 carbies I boiled them with about a cup of Lemon Juice and enough Distilled water to cover the carbs in a coffee can out on the Barbie.
Got the same results. ;)

I have been trying really hard, "Bike Night" has went from being typically Thursdays to a little almost every night and most of the weekend. Sunday I figured I better mow the lawn after 2 weeks +, with all this rain it was ready to be baled!!
Last night I got the choke plates on and adjusted so the open and close freely and cleaned up the factory airbox. Got so excited to tget the carb rack on I went ahead and put the cables on and assembled it.

All pleased in my progress for the night I killed the lights in the shop and as I was walking back into the house I realized...
I FORGOT THE BENCH SYNC
So I now get to pull them BACK off, and check the sync, probably only to find it was dead nuts on.... but if I don't, you know it will be all jacked. ::)

Yep, do it right! ;)

That, is something I would have done. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to that kind of thing. At least if you check em and they aren't sync'd you can say you had to pull them. Other then that, nice work.

really loving the look of the motor in the red frame HD. Your efforts in polishing and painting have really paid off!!

Thanks Terry66, I posted the guide I used to rebuild my carbs on your thread for ya.
Wifey went to work already for the day and left me un attended... so as soon as I get this pot-o-coffee down my throat I'll be heading out to the shop to pull the carbs and check the sync, in a couple hours I'll be back where I am now ::)
Then I'll try to finish the seat, that ought to be a motivator to pull out all the stops and get this thing finished up!

Well, I back tracked and took the carbs off to check the sync. Turned out was not too shaby, but defiantely worth my while. I used a small piece of music wire pushed into a spray cleaner straw for a handle.

... and now that the throttle plates are verified to have even drag on the wire, I stood back and looked around.
"Hmmmm, that starter would sure be a lot easier to install now." The original starter had both cover mounting screws broken and no matter how much I tried I could not get them removed. Tried notching with the dremel to use a screwdriver, tapping out with a pin punch, even drilling with a left hand drill, then last resort was an easy-out... But no use, the ends of that nice starter are useless. So I disassembled both of the starters I had, thanks to Rich Ard and used the best parts to make the best one I could come up with. Actually turned out nice! After it bench tested good, it then was installed.
So I got back to where I started this morning, plus a little more.... AND hopefully saved a few headaches down the road. ;)

Cheers 'H'between us we should be able to build the ultimate haha still waiting for my carb parts to show up then i can get sorted ,so want to start on another project and yup the frame gonna be a red un ;)

Weekends progress was I started covering the seat after I had put a thin layer of marine grade foam over the entire thing to take out any imperfections. I use contact cement to both surfaces, starting in the center then clamp it down for several hours before moving outward to the ends. Helps me stretch it along the way to avoid wrinkles.

Then tonight, I finally had the engine covers smoothed enough to polish. Hit them with the first bout on the buffing wheel. Calling it a night for now. "whew"

Man, i hope my bike is faster, 'cause yours is going to look far better :)

What do you do to maintain the polish on things like the engine, over the course of years?

Once you get it there it is realatively easy to maintain. ASfter the final buffing I give it a polish with Mothers, then a coat of old fashioned carnuba car wax. But to be honest, every spring is the ritual of sitting with the bikes and a can of Mothers and polishing the shiney stuff. Kind of a zen moment to me.

wow, looks great, ive just spent 2 hours hand sanding the marks/scratches out of the left covers and thats before i start polishing, so i cant imagine the amount of hours of work to get to where you are..whew!! looks great!!
Your build is the inspiration to my build!! did you spray the frame yourself or did you get it powerdcoated? if so whats the color name? cheers

Nice work as always Hoosier. Did you guys ever hear of shark hide? It is sold in marinas to protect boats aluminum and chrome from oxidation, Kiley uses it and it protects great I guess. I have yet to be able to get any but where I live polished parts are dirty after the first ride no matter how many coats of polish and wax I do and until I find a better way to prevent all my hard work from looking like shit after the first ride in the rain I am waiting till I can get my hands on the shark hide or can afford clear powder over the polish.

That being said, again, great job.
